M4A4 | Desolate Space (Factory New)

This is the M4A4 | Desolate Space in Factory New (FN), where the violet body and its turquoise glow look untouched. It is a Classified rifle from the Gamma Case and the Gamma Collection. Its float sits between 0.00 and 0.07.

What the M4A4 | Desolate Space looks like in Factory New

The main color is lilac-violet, and the handguard and receiver are flooded with turquoise swirls that resemble neon clouds. A gold-olive figure in a spacesuit helmet stands on the receiver, with yellow-green stripes along the handguard. The barrel and front sight are pale lilac.

In Factory New there is not a single scuff: the receiver edges and the magazine rib are fully painted. For a finish with such a dense scene, this is what the extra money buys: the color is never broken up by bare light metal.

Where the M4A4 | Desolate Space came from

The Gamma Collection arrived in June 2016, and this rifle has been part of it since the start. Andy submitted it to the Steam Workshop on May 14, 2016, as a piece made for a Polycount and Valve contest. By the author's account, the look was taken from 1970s science fiction. Its number in Valve's catalog is 588.

What to check before buying

Three things deserve a check:

• the float: this wear covers 0.00 to 0.07;

• the receiver and trigger guard edges: a factory-fresh copy should show no light specks;

• any stickers on the body, and a name tag if there is one.

Every copy carries the same artwork, so no pattern is worth hunting. The band from 0.00 to 0.07 is short, so there is no point chasing a number: it takes up 7% of the scale.

What the M4A4 | Desolate Space costs in Factory New

Every other wear is cheaper, by these factors:

• Minimal Wear by 2.8 times;

• Field-Tested by 4.3 times;

• Well-Worn by 4.4 times;

• Battle-Scarred also by 4.4 times.

In this wear the skin costs more than two of the eight Classified M4A4 skins and less than five. The M4A4 | Falak sits above it at roughly 2.6 times the price. Below it is the M4A4 | 龍王 (Dragon King), cheaper by almost a quarter. The M4A4 | Hellfire and the M4A4 | Poseidon also rank higher, and the latter costs tens of times more.

Getting the M4A4 | Desolate Space

The Gamma Case is the source of this rifle. A trade-up for it takes ten skins from the tier below, and the result comes from this collection when they are taken from it.

StatTrak and Souvenir

StatTrak is available on this finish, but there has never been a Souvenir package for it.

Stickers and craft on the M4A4 | Desolate Space

The dense scene leaves little room: the figure and the glow take up the side of the receiver. The stock and the magazine are freer, and light stickers, white or yellow, work better there. On a factory-fresh copy a sticker cannot be undone, so decide before you apply one.

Who this wear suits

There are three reasons to take this wear:

• you want a rifle with an untouched glow and no light edges;

• a float of 0.00 to 0.07 gives a predictable result, since the listings are practically identical;

• the rifle is for a CS2 showcase rather than for play.
