The ★ Flip Knife is the Flip Knife with no skin in CS2: there is no finish on the blade, and the lot description marks it as not painted. Covert rank, with the ★ mark. It has no wear and no float, no pattern either, and every copy is identical.
What the ★ Flip Knife looks like
The blade is curved, with a wide belly. A serrated stretch runs along the base of the edge, and above it the steel is light and smooth. Near the pivot a round black mark is stamped on the flat of the blade.
The handle is gray-olive, with slanted ridges for the fingers and a lanyard slot near the top. The knife folds, and the blade retracts into the handle. Its color comes from the steel and that gray-green material.
How the plain ★ Flip Knife differs from a skinned one
A Flip Knife with a skin is judged by its wear and float. The unpainted one is free of both:
- there is no wear grade, so no wear and no float either;
- there is no phase or pattern, so two copies cannot be told apart;
- a name tag can be applied, and the text moves with the knife to the new owner;
- knives have no sticker slots.
That leaves one choice: the regular version or the StatTrak version.
What the ★ Flip Knife costs
Counted by the starting "from" price, the unpainted knife sits almost in the middle of the Flip Knife skins: eighteen cost less and sixteen cost more. Closest below are Flip Knife | Crimson Web (a difference of about one percent), Flip Knife | Autotronic (a few percent cheaper) and Flip Knife | Lore (a ninth cheaper).
Above it come Flip Knife | Tiger Tooth (a sixth more) and Flip Knife | Marble Fade (two fifths more). Flip Knife | Slaughter costs more than one and a half times as much. At the top of the range, Flip Knife | Gamma Doppler Emerald costs nearly eight times as much as the unpainted knife. Flip Knife | Doppler Ruby costs more than eight times as much, and Flip Knife | Doppler Black Pearl nearly nine times.
Is there a StatTrak version
Yes. The ★ StatTrak™ Flip Knife is listed as a separate item, and its counter does not reset. It costs almost the same as the regular version, a difference of about one percent.
Getting the ★ Flip Knife
The Flip Knife drops as a rare special item from eleven cases:
- CS:GO Weapon Case;
- eSports 2013 Case;
- Operation Bravo Case;
- CS:GO Weapon Case 2;
- eSports 2013 Winter Case;
- Winter Offensive Weapon Case;
- CS:GO Weapon Case 3;
- Operation Phoenix Weapon Case;
- eSports 2014 Summer Case;
- Operation Vanguard Weapon Case;
- Revolver Case.
Bare steel sits in the rare special item pool alongside the skins, so it drops together with them, and you cannot pick it when opening a case. A trade-up contract also yields a Flip Knife: five Covert skins return a random rare special item. The simpler route to the lot you want is to buy it ready-made on LIS-SKINS.
Who it suits
The ★ Flip Knife without a skin suits you if:
- you want the Flip Knife shape without paying extra for a skin;
- you would rather not check float and pattern;
- Flip Knife | Tiger Tooth and Flip Knife | Marble Fade cost noticeably more, and you like the shape just as much.
