★ Butterfly Knife

The ★ Butterfly Knife with no skin is the CS2 butterfly knife without a skin: the listing description reads "Not Painted". Covert rank, with the ★ mark, and no wear grade, wear, float or pattern: every copy looks the same. In the community such knives are called vanilla.

What the ★ Butterfly Knife looks like

The blade is upswept: a wide belly tapers to the point. Factory grind marks run across the light blade, and small serrations show on the edge at the base.

Two black handles fold out around the blade. Each has oval cutouts and a light-gray insert, a steel latch sits by the pivot, and a pin sticks out at the end. The knife takes its color from the steel and the black metal of the handles.

How the plain ★ Butterfly Knife differs from a skinned one

With a skinned butterfly the buyer checks wear, float and phase. Here there is nothing to check:

• no wear grade is assigned, and no float band is given for the listing;

• there are no phases or gems: those words belong to Doppler and Gamma Doppler, and do not apply to a plain knife;

• a name tag can be applied, and the name stays on the knife after a sale;

• stickers do not attach to knives.

The only choice is the regular version or StatTrak™, and listings differ only in price.

What the ★ Butterfly Knife costs

Among Butterfly Knife skins, the plain knife sits in the lower part of the row by its starting "from" price: twenty skins are cheaper and fourteen are more expensive. Blue Steel is cheaper by almost half, Tiger Tooth and Slaughter by a few percent.

Above come Marble Fade (a tenth more) and Gamma Doppler in Phase 4 and Phase 3 (one and a half times). At the top of the row, Gamma Doppler with Emerald costs more than six times as much as the plain knife. Doppler with Ruby costs almost nine times as much, and Doppler with Black Pearl more than fourteen.

Is there a StatTrak version

Yes: the ★ StatTrak™ Butterfly Knife is a separate item with its own page, and the counter on the knife does not reset. There is no premium for the counter here: the StatTrak version costs a few percent less than the regular one.

Getting the ★ Butterfly Knife

The Butterfly Knife drops as a rare special item from a single case, the Operation Breakout Weapon Case. It is the only model in it, but whether you get a skin or bare steel is down to chance, because the plain knife sits in the same rare special item pool.

A trade-up contract is the second route: five Covert skins go in, and a rare special item of a random model comes out. A plain butterfly can be picked for certain only as a ready-made listing, and it can be bought on LIS-SKINS.

Who it suits

The ★ Butterfly Knife with no skin suits you when:

• you want a butterfly knife without paying extra for a skin;

• you want a listing with no float or phase to check;

• you like the model more than any of the skins on it.
