The finish has two wears, Factory New (FN) and Minimal Wear (MW), since the float scale stops at 0.08 and goes no further than the second.

Valve describes the M9 as a bayonet meant for a rifle that also suits close combat. Here the blade is covered in dark blue lacquer with a violet sheen, a turquoise blotch shows at the base, and black swirls lie deep in the finish. Teeth run along the spine, and the blade has a through hole. The guard with its ring and the pommel are blue, and the handle of ribbed rubber is gray-black.

It came out on January 8, 2015, with the Full Spectrum update and the first Chroma case. In a note of May 24, 2024, Valve reported a fix to the appearance of Doppler.

Doppler is a family of finishes, and the phase is part of the item name: the buyer picks Phase 3 instead of pulling it from a case. Phases 1 to 4 are regular. Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl are gems, meaning the rare variants of the finish. Gamma Doppler has a single gem, Emerald.

Within Phase 3 the copies still differ: the pattern index shifts the proportion of colors and their place on the face of the blade. Copies with no blue at all look like Black Pearl and carry the nickname "Fake Black Pearl".
