AK-47 | Head Shot (Field-Tested)

The AK-47 | Head Shot in Field-Tested (FT) sits mid-scale on this pastel graffiti rifle. Blobs of paint are intact, while the sheen along the edges has already been knocked off. By float the grade occupies 0.15 to 0.38. The rank is Covert, and the rifle arrives in the Revolution Case.

What the AK-47 | Head Shot looks like in Field-Tested

The ground is light gray, almost whitish, and over it lie layered splashes of pink, lime, turquoise and yellow paint with drips running off them. The gas tube is lime, the magazine keeps the same tones, the barrel is dark. Blotches on the side of the receiver are larger, those on the stock finer. The words HEAD SHOT GUN promised in Valve's description are built out of the same tags and can be read only in pieces.

Copies in this grade come from the 0.15 to 0.38 stretch, and the two ends of it look different. A busy base hides wear: receiver edges and stock corners gray first, and the pearl sheen dies there. The large blotches on the flat sides stay whole across the entire stretch.

Where the AK-47 | Head Shot came from

The Revolution Collection appeared on February 9, 2023. In Valve's catalog of finishes the artwork stands at number 1221.

It was drawn by SerQ, a Steam Workshop author. He posted the submission, titled AK-47 : Head Shot Gun [holo], on April 23, 2020. By his own account the series took several months and was redone from scratch, and it was drawn in wild style graffiti.

In a note dated February 10, 2023 Valve announced the Revolution Case: seventeen finishes by community authors, with gloves from the Clutch Case as its rare items. The set was edited afterward, and AWP | Doodle Lore was replaced by AWP | Duality.

What to check before buying

On the AK-47 | Head Shot a few things are worth comparing:

• the float inside 0.15 to 0.38, as the receiver edges still hold color at the lower bound;

• stock corners and the top of the magazine, where the sheen goes first;

• stickers and an applied name, which travel with the listing.

There is no pattern variance on this rifle: what one copy shows, the rest show too.

What the AK-47 | Head Shot costs in Field-Tested

Factory New asks almost three times as much, Minimal Wear about half again. Downward the steps are small: Well-Worn is cheaper by roughly a twentieth, Battle-Scarred by about a twelfth. The three worn grades cost nearly the same, and the choice between them goes by looks.

Of the twenty-four Covert AK-47 finishes priced in this grade, this one is second from the bottom, with only Aphrodite below it. Immediately above stands Inheritance, within a tenth of it. The top of the rank lives in other numbers: Fire Serpent is dearer by more than twenty times, Wild Lotus by around two hundred and fifty.

Getting the AK-47 | Head Shot

There is one case, the Revolution, and no other case carries this artwork.

A contract gets there too: ten skins of the rank below, all from the same collection. The set has two Covert finishes, so the chance is one in two. A Covert from here then goes on as fuel for a glove craft.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the AK-47 | Head Shot

The AK-47 | Head Shot has a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were ever made for this finish, because packages only ever covered tournament map collections. A souvenir copy can still be built by hand. The Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory. That is why the odd souvenir copy turns up where no package was ever made.

A light, busy base works against stickers: dark ones show on it, light ones dissolve into the paint. Flat spots are scarce, with blotches over the side of the receiver and the stock, and only the underside of the handguard left free. A loud build in these colors ends up arguing with the finish.

Who this wear suits

Buying the AK-47 | Head Shot in Field-Tested is justified in these cases:

• a Covert AK is wanted for CS2 and Factory New asks almost three times more;

• the blobs of paint on the sides matter and need to be whole;

• the rifle is going into matches rather than into a CS2 showcase.

Closer to 0.38 the receiver edges and the stock corners are already gray. Moving to Well-Worn or Battle-Scarred saves a few percent at most.
