Description

Field-Tested (FT) on the AK-47 | Rat Rod is a wear that hardly argues with the paint itself. Even clean, the rifle is drawn as a repainted hot rod with rust coming through. The AK-47 | Rat Rod can be bought with a float from 0.15 to 0.38. Restricted rank; the paint drops from the Shattered Web Case.

What the AK-47 | Rat Rod looks like in Field-Tested

The handguard, the cover and sides of the receiver, the gas tube and the stock are painted a faded turquoise-green, with brown rust stains and bald patches of bare steel. The barrel is rust-orange, the magazine is dark with turquoise edges and a yellow stripe, and the grip is dark gray with an orange bottom.

The main feature is a red fan of thin pinstripes on the right side of the receiver. Next to it sit stickers: an orange-yellow one with flames on the handguard, a green oval one with white letters below it and a red oval one on the receiver. The text on them cannot be read; a handwritten turquoise scrawl runs across the cover.

The pattern is built on chips from the start, so in Field-Tested it is the rusty edges that grow. These are the ribs of the handguard, the edge of the cover, the rim of the magazine well and the corners of the stock. The thin red pinstripe and the edges of the stickers vanish first, while the turquoise surfaces simply get blotchier.

Where the AK-47 | Rat Rod came from

The paint was drawn by a Steam Workshop artist who goes by DasDas. He posted the submission, with the working title "AK-47 'Nibbler'", on March 1, 2018. The author described the idea this way: this rifle appears constantly in post-apocalyptic films and games, yet there are few Workshop works on it. He drew inspiration from the fearsome machines of a desert world ruled by wheels and weapons.

The Shattered Web Collection was released on November 19, 2019. In Valve's skin catalog the artwork is number 885. In the post announcing the operation, Valve presented four new knives together with the case.

What to check before buying

The differences between copies of the AK-47 | Rat Rod come down to this:

  • the float: nearer 0.15 the red pinstripe reads in full, at the upper limit it is broken up;

  • the edges of the stickers: they go sooner than the artwork itself;

  • stickers and a name tag already on this copy of the AK-47 | Rat Rod.

The artwork of the AK-47 | Rat Rod is fixed and does not depend on the copy. The wear of the AK-47 | Rat Rod stretches from 0.15 to 0.38, and you can see it on inspection.

What the AK-47 | Rat Rod costs in Field-Tested

Factory New on this paint costs more than twenty times as much. What you pay for there is not a clean body, since the rust is drawn in at every wear. The markup is held up by an intact pinstripe and untouched sticker edges. Minimal Wear costs about two-thirds more.

Going down, there is almost no step. The difference from Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred is a matter of cents, and which of the two turns out cheaper is decided by individual listings.

Among Restricted AK-47 skins, this paint is fifth of nine by ascending price. AK-47 | Slate sits right above it, and AK-47 | Safety Net and AK-47 | Midnight Laminate below. The top of the rank is far off: AK-47 | Blue Laminate, AK-47 | Orbit Mk01 and AK-47 | First Class cost several times more.

Getting the AK-47 | Rat Rod

The main route is the Shattered Web Case; the paint has not appeared in other cases.

For a contract for the AK-47 | Rat Rod, you gather ten skins one rank down from this collection. The set has five Restricted skins, so the chance of landing exactly this one is one in five.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the AK-47 | Rat Rod

The AK-47 | Rat Rod has a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were released for this paint: those were made only for tournament map collections. But you can build a Souvenir copy yourself: the Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player's autograph on an ordinary skin from the inventory. So the odd Souvenir copy turns up now and then even where no packages ever existed.

The painted stickers on the body are the main difficulty for a craft: real stickers line up in a row with them. The stock and the lower part of the handguard are free, and the side with the pinstripe is usually left uncovered.

Who this wear suits

Buying the AK-47 | Rat Rod in Field-Tested makes sense if:

  • you want a rusty AK for CS2 without paying extra for an intact pinstripe;

  • choosing by float matters: copies differ within the band;

  • the rifle will go into matches, where the small artwork cannot be made out.

Toward the upper limit only separate lines are left of the red fan, so filter the listings by float. At range in CS2 this is not visible.
