AWP | Chromatic Aberration (Field-Tested)

Field-Tested (FT) on the AWP | Chromatic Aberration is the second-cheapest of its five wears: only Battle-Scarred costs less. The Field-Tested band takes up almost a third of the float scale. It is Covert rank, and the AWP | Chromatic Aberration drops from the Recoil Case for CS2.

What the AWP | Chromatic Aberration looks like in Field-Tested

The body is dark gray, almost graphite, with wide pink stripes running across it. The stock and cheek rest are ruled with them from end to end, and toward the edges the pink shades into violet. It is the only large patch of color on the rifle; everything else is gray.

The rest of the design is fine. Turquoise and pink icons are scattered along the barrel, each one duplicated with an offset, which is exactly what chromatic aberration looks like, a failure of color registration. Turquoise rings sit at the muzzle and on the bipod hinges, and small letters and icons are set on the heel of the stock.

In Field-Tested the dark base gives way before the design does. Pale metal shows on the ribs of the receiver, near the bolt and on the bipod, while the pink stripes lie on the flats and stay whole. The small icons on the barrel read worse toward the top of the band, as the offset outlines merge with the scuffs.

Where the AWP | Chromatic Aberration came from

The author is kosear from the Steam Workshop. The submission appeared on October 5, 2020, almost two years before release, and was called "AWP | Chromatic Aberration (candy pink)": the pink was right there in the title. The finish kept the name, while the note about the candy shade was dropped at release.

The Recoil Collection was released on July 1, 2022. In the post for the case, Valve listed seventeen works from community authors and named the gloves from the Operation Broken Fang Case as the rare items. In Valve's skin catalog the AWP is number 1144.

What to check before buying

Copies of the AWP | Chromatic Aberration differ noticeably within this wear. There are few criteria for choosing:

• a name tag and stickers from a previous owner;


• the state of the ribs of the receiver and the bipod, where pale metal shows first;


• how crisp the small icons on the barrel are.

The wear is set at 0.15 to 0.38. You cannot buy an AWP | Chromatic Aberration with a "rare" pattern: the artwork is the same on every copy. Float is the only thing that sets one listing apart from another.

What the AWP | Chromatic Aberration costs in Field-Tested

Prices across the wears do not run in order. Factory New costs a little over twice as much, but Minimal Wear and Well-Worn cost almost the same as each other and top Field-Tested by about a tenth. Only Battle-Scarred comes in cheaper.

Among Covert skins for this rifle, the AWP | Chromatic Aberration is second from the bottom by price: only the AWP | Chrome Cannon costs less. The AWP | Hyper Beast and the AWP | Neo-Noir sit a little higher. The AWP | Wildfire and another Covert AWP cost noticeably more. The AWP | Medusa, the AWP | Dragon Lore and the AWP | Gungnir are in a different class.

Getting the AWP | Chromatic Aberration

The AWP | Chromatic Aberration drops from the Recoil Case. You can also build it rather than buy it: a trade-up takes ten skins of the next rank down from this set. The wear of the output is computed from the skins that went in.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the AWP | Chromatic Aberration

The AWP | Chromatic Aberration has a StatTrak version. Souvenir copies of the finish turn up as well, though no Souvenir packages were ever made for it: packages only ever covered tournament map collections. Those copies are built with the Souvenir-O-Matic, which puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory.

The pink stripes on the stock are large and uniform, and a sticker reads in full on them. Turquoise and white stickers pick up the cool accents of the design, while red and orange ones clash with the pink. In CS2 the craft goes on the stock and the cheek rest; the receiver with its stripes is best left uncovered.

Who this wear suits

Field-Tested makes sense for the AWP | Chromatic Aberration if:

• you want a bright AWP for CS2 without overpaying for the clean wears;


• choosing by float matters: the 0.15 to 0.38 band is long, and the two ends of it look different;


• you want a dark base with a single large patch of color for stickers.

Near 0.15 the body is still even, and near 0.38 pale metal shows on the edges. Up to 0.25 the design on the barrel stays crisp.
