AWP | Containment Breach (Factory New)

The AWP | Containment Breach in Factory New (FN) is the top step of the scale and the one with the sharpest price break on it. The paint runs stop at the ribs, and every grade below loses them there first. In this grade the rifle covers floats from 0.00 to 0.07. The rank is Covert, and the AWP sits in the Shattered Web Case.

What the AWP | Containment Breach looks like in Factory New

The finish starts at the scope: a bright lime ring closes around the objective, with green flecks on the turrets and the tube. The green runs down a dark olive-gray base from the top, thickest on the grip and the cheek of the stock. The magazine is dark gray with brushed marks, while the barrel, the bipod and the rail carry no paint at all.

A green three-lobed shape on the butt plate reads as a biohazard mark, and the stenciled lettering on the grip is pale yellow and illegible.

In Factory New the ring is closed the whole way around and the butt plate does not turn gray. The edges of the receiver and the lip of the cheek hold their green right out to the rib. That is where the paint goes first, so across the 0.00 to 0.07 band it is the whole of what separates one listing from the grade below.

Where the AWP | Containment Breach came from

apel8 made the finish, though the Steam Workshop submission is filed under the account Rremarin: the work went up on April 18, 2018 under the title "AWP | Virus". The AWP | Containment Breach belongs to The Shattered Web Collection, released on November 19, 2019, and the finish sits at number 887 in Valve's catalog. The same note announced four new knives for the case: the Paracord Knife, the Survival Knife, the Nomad Knife and the Skeleton Knife.

The item description promises mutated rats out of an irradiated forest, but neither rats nor forest can be made out on the rifle. What survived of the idea is the acid-green spill.

What to check before buying

These are the points to compare between listings of the AWP | Containment Breach:

• the float, because up to 0.07 the lime ring around the objective runs unbroken;


• the butt plate and the receiver edges, where the green goes first;


• any stickers and name tag the AWP | Containment Breach carries from its previous owner.

The artwork is printed the same way across the whole run. The 0.00 to 0.07 band is tight on the AWP | Containment Breach, and the listings at either end of it differ only by the number. The finish uses the full scale from 0.00 to 1.00, which leaves the top grade about a fourteenth of it.

Immediately above sit the AWP | Sovereign Flame, the AWP | LongDog and the AWP | Oni Taiji, all dearer by roughly a quarter. The nearest one below, the AWP | Queen's Gambit, is cheaper by almost half, and the AWP | Neo-Noir closes the rank. The top lives apart: the AWP | Medusa and the AWP | Gungnir cost many times more.

Getting the AWP | Containment Breach

The finish drops from the Shattered Web Case, and no other case carries it. To get an AWP | Containment Breach from a contract, ten skins one rank below from the same collection go in. The collection holds two Covert items, so the odds are one in two. The Covert rank itself feeds the craft for those four knives.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the AWP | Containment Breach

The AWP | Containment Breach has a StatTrak version. Souvenir copies of the finish turn up as well, though no Souvenir packages were ever made for it: packages only ever covered tournament map collections. Those copies are built with the Souvenir-O-Matic, which puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory.

A dark base under acid green takes yellow and lime and smothers anything warm. The free room is the side of the receiver below the runs and the flat of the stock. In the top grade a sticker lands on unbroken paint, but there is no taking it off again afterward.

Who this wear suits

Buying the AWP | Containment Breach in this grade makes sense when:

• the closed ring around the objective matters, because it marks a Factory New copy at a glance;


• the rifle is headed for a CS2 showcase and a close look;


• a clean base is wanted under an expensive craft.

For playing CS2 the threefold premium does not earn itself back: at range the runs read the same either way.
