The AWP | Mortis in Field-Tested (FT) is the cheapest of this skin's five wears, and the death imagery the name promises is nowhere on the model. The wear is given the band 0.15 to 0.38. It is a Classified skin, and the AWP drops from the Clutch Case.
What the AWP | Mortis looks like in Field-Tested
There are no skulls, bones or lettering on the body. The heart of the finish is a large round ornament with rays on the side of the receiver, gold and bronze on a dark ground. The stock is olive khaki with coral blotches. The small metal parts are picked out in salmon pink: the muzzle collar, the scope posts and the bipod with its feet. The barrel and scope tube stay dark metal with a brown cast.
The coral overlays sit on raised parts, and in Field-Tested they are the first to rub off. The stock edges and the butt plate go next. The gold ornament on the flat receiver side is intact in this wear, so the most striking part of the finish is not touched by the wear at all.
Where the AWP | Mortis came from
The finish is credited to the artist Zaphk, though the Workshop submission was posted by Oni on April 25, 2017 as "AWP | Death". The skin belongs to a tarot series by one author: six arcana across five guns. The Fool went to the P90, the Empress to the AK-47 and the Moon and the Sun to the Dual Berettas. Judgement went to the Desert Eagle, and Death, number XIII, to this rifle. Valve's inspect text says the same: every ending is a new beginning. The Clutch Collection was released on February 14, 2018, and the finish entered the game that day. Valve's catalog numbers it 691.
What to check before buying
What separates one AWP | Mortis listing from another comes down to this:
- the float, which decides how much coral is left on the scope posts and the bipod;
- what the previous owner left on the AWP | Mortis: stickers and an applied name.
The skin arrives with the same artwork whichever listing you pick. The band of 0.15 to 0.38 holds a real difference, so it pays to compare several listings.
What the AWP | Mortis costs in Field-Tested
Factory New costs almost three times as much, and Minimal Wear about half as much again. Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred each cost a tenth more than FT, even though they carry more wear. The finish's float ceiling is 0.64, so the most worn grade takes the band 0.45 to 0.64.
Among Classified AWPs this finish is second from the bottom, and only Duality is cheaper. Green Energy and Ice Coaled cost about twice as much, while The End and Elite Build cost three times as much. Redline, BOOM and Silk Tiger sit an order of magnitude higher.
Getting the AWP | Mortis
The skin has one case, the Clutch Case. The AWP | Mortis also comes out of trade-ups: the contract takes ten skins of the rank below from one collection. Those are the Glock-18 | Moonrise, MAG-7 | SWAG-7, Negev | Lionfish, Nova | Wild Six and UMP-45 | Arctic Wolf. The collection has three Classified finishes, so the chance of landing on the AWP is one in three.
Mortis itself also goes into contracts. One step up in this set stand the M4A4 | Neo-Noir and the MP7 | Bloodsport.
StatTrak and Souvenir
Stickers and craft on the AWP | Mortis
The AWP | Mortis has a StatTrak version. Souvenir copies of the finish turn up as well, though no Souvenir packages were ever made for it: packages only ever covered tournament map collections. Those copies are built with the Souvenir-O-Matic, which puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory.
The ground is dark, and almost any sticker reads on it. Coral and gold stickers pick up the palette of the finish, while cool blues clash with the bronze. The side with the ornament is taken, but the stock and the area ahead of the scope are free. On an inexpensive finish a craft in CS2 carries no risk of spoiling an expensive item.
Who this wear suits
Field-Tested is a sensible buy for the AWP | Mortis if:
- you want a dark AWP for CS2 with one bright accent;
- the ornament on the receiver matters more than the small coral details;
- paying almost three times as much for Factory New has no job to do.
The premium above this wear buys only the coral overlays on small parts, which are barely visible at playing distance. The lower wears are no cheaper, so FT is the low point for this finish.
