Description

In Field-Tested (FT) the AWP | Pit Viper still reads whole: fine dark scales over a bright green body, with pale rubbing already out on the ribs. The grade takes the band from 0.15 to 0.38. The rank is Restricted. The rifle belongs to The Italy Collection, and that set has no ordinary case behind it.

What the AWP | Pit Viper looks like in Field-Tested

Green does not cover the whole rifle. Receiver, stock, grip and bipod legs are bright green under a dense mesh of small dark green specks. Lime-yellow accents gather in three places: a block at the rear of the stock, patches on the grip, and the bipod feet. Barrel, flash hider, scope, rail and magazine are left black-gray with no art, and the cheek rest and butt pad are dark rubber. There is no lettering, and the art is a field of tiny pixelated scale marks with no large shapes.

The scales are a thin printed pattern. In Field-Tested the receiver ribs go first, then the lip of the cheek rest. The corners by the magazine well and the lime bipod feet follow. On the flat sides the mesh holds across its whole area. Black barrel and scope show no wear at all, so near the top of the band only the green looks rubbed.

Where the AWP | Pit Viper came from

Valve drew the finish itself. The film never went through the Steam Workshop, and no submission stands behind it. Valve's catalog numbers the rifle 251. The Italy Collection appeared on November 27, 2013.

What to check before buying

On an AWP | Pit Viper these are worth comparing:

  • float inside 0.15 to 0.38: at the low end the scales are whole on the ribs, at the high end those ribs are pale;

  • the lime bipod feet, which fade earlier than anything else on this finish;

  • stickers from a previous owner and a rename on the AWP | Pit Viper.

The art on the AWP | Pit Viper is one and the same across every copy, so there is no special one to look for. The hydrographic goes on with an offset, so the scales fall differently from copy to copy. That part of the choice shows only in the picture on the listing. From 0.15 to 0.38 the rubbing on the AWP | Pit Viper builds noticeably. The scale is cut at both ends, 0.08 to 0.50, so Factory New does not exist for this rifle at all.

What the AWP | Pit Viper costs in Field-Tested

Of the four grades that exist, Field-Tested is the cheapest, which is unusual: the floor is normally Battle-Scarred. The other three line up this way:

  • Minimal Wear is dearer by about half;

  • Well-Worn by about an eighth;

  • Battle-Scarred by about a twentieth.

Those fractions come with a caveat. The gap between the three lower grades is measured in cents, and the order rests on a couple of chance listings rather than on any rule. One real step exists here, upward to Minimal Wear.

Among Restricted AWPs the Pit Viper in this grade is first from the bottom of ten on price. Nearest above are AWP | Phobos and AWP | PAW, at roughly two and a quarter times. AWP | Worm God and AWP | Exothermic stand higher again, and AWP | Pink DDPAT is more than twenty times above.

Getting the AWP | Pit Viper

The Italy Collection was never packed into cases. The finish did go into souvenir packages from DreamHack 2013 and EMS One 2014, so the Souvenir release comes from two tournaments at once.

The AWP | Pit Viper is also built with a contract on ten skins one rank below from the same set. The Italy Collection holds a single Restricted skin, so the contract always hands back this rifle. Nothing sits above Restricted in the set, which rules the finish out as a trade-up input.

StatTrak and Souvenir

The AWP | Pit Viper never got a StatTrak version, and the Souvenir edition is the only variant it has.

Stickers and craft on the AWP | Pit Viper

The scales are a small even pattern, and a sticker does not drown in them: its outline reads clearly over the mesh. Green stickers get lost in the base, while white, red and black come forward. There is room for a craft on both sides of the receiver and on the stock.

Who this wear suits

Field-Tested is the AWP | Pit Viper to take when:

  • a green AWP for CS2 at the lowest price in the Restricted rank is the aim;

  • the scales count for more than the state of the ribs, the mesh being whole on the flats;

  • paying half again for Minimal Wear is not justified.

Going lower serves no purpose, as Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred cost more and look worse. At CS2 range the green body and black barrel read the same either way, and the scales only come apart up close.
