Description

The FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement in Field-Tested (FT) is the most affordable of the middle wears for this finish. Its float band runs from 0.15 to 0.38, and because the skin's scale is open from 0.00 all the way to 1.00, it comes in five wears. The rank is Classified, and the finish drops from the Dreams & Nightmares Case in CS2. The main element of the artwork is a row of painted eyes along the side of the receiver.

What the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement looks like in Field-Tested

The body is built from rectangular riveted panels: raspberry-red and pink-purple on the receiver, shifting to blue-violet toward the stock and magazine. The trigger guard is pale lilac, the grip lavender-white with a brown back, and the barrel and muzzle are left as bare gray metal. A row of eyes runs along the upper side, one per panel, though some panels carry a bulging eyeball with no eyelid instead. The finish has no text, numbers or logos.

In Field-Tested the wear shows first on the raised edges of the carry handle and the outer ring of the trigger guard. Next the dark eyelid outlines thin out, and those outlines are what make the eyes recognizable. The large flat panels on the side hold the artwork longest, so from a distance the rifle looks almost clean in this wear.

Where the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement came from

The finish was created by a Steam Workshop artist who goes by Sparkwire. He posted the submission "Rapid Eyes | D&N | FAMAS" on October 19, 2021. His idea, in short, was the rapid eye movement phase of sleep, the stretch of the night in which a person dreams.

It reached the game through the Dreams & Nightmares Workshop contest. Valve announced the contest in July 2021 and had collected more than fifteen thousand entries by October. The release notes for the case say that all seventeen finishes in the set were picked from the contest entries, and Sparkwire was one of the winners. The finish came out on January 21, 2022, and its number in Valve's skin catalog is 1127.

What to check before buying

Three things decide which copy of the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement to pick:

  • float: inside the 0.15 to 0.38 band the condition of the eyelid outlines changes, and the difference between the two ends is visible to the eye;

  • stickers from the previous owner and a name tag, both of which are part of the listing's price;

  • version: StatTrak is a separate listing and costs more.

Every copy of the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement carries the same pattern, so there is no pattern variance here.

What the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement costs in Field-Tested

The wears of this finish are priced close together:

  • Factory New runs about two and a half times higher;

  • Minimal Wear costs about a tenth more;

  • Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred are cheaper by a few percent.

Of the seven Classified FAMAS skins priced in this wear, the Rapid Eye Movement is second from the bottom: only the FAMAS | Eye of Athena is cheaper. The FAMAS | Djinn costs about twice as much, the FAMAS | Afterimage three times, and the FAMAS | Mecha Industries and FAMAS | Meltdown almost five times.

Getting the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement

The finish drops from the Dreams & Nightmares Case. No other case holds it, and the collection never had Souvenir packages at all.

The second route is a trade-up contract: ten Restricted skins from the collection yield one Classified skin. The set has three Classified skins, so the chance of landing this particular rifle is one in three.

StatTrak and Souvenir

The FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement has a StatTrak version. Souvenir packages were never released for this finish, because they were made only for tournament map collections. A Souvenir copy can still be built by hand: the Souvenir-O-Matic applies gold tournament stickers and a player autograph to an ordinary skin from your inventory. That is why single Souvenir copies show up now and then even where no packages ever existed.

Stickers and craft on the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement

The artwork is dense, and a small sticker vanishes in it. Large solid-color stickers work: black, white or acid green, while pink and purple ones blend into the panels. The most even spot for a craft is the stock and the magazine area. Covering the side with the eyes is a poor trade, since that is how the finish is recognized.

Who this wear suits

Buying the FAMAS | Rapid Eye Movement in Field-Tested makes sense when:

  • you want a bright rifle for CS2 without paying extra for the cleaner wears;

  • you are taking it as an input for a contract toward a Covert skin of the collection;

  • choosing by float within a single wear matters to you.

The case against: the eye-covered panels will not sit well in a calm loadout, because this is an accent finish. In this wear the eyelid outlines are also thinner, so up close the eyes read worse than in the upper wears.
