M4A1-S | Night Terror (Well-Worn)

The M4A1-S | Night Terror in Well-Worn (WW) occupies a narrow stretch of the scale: 0.38 to 0.45, roughly a tenth of the whole range. Wear has touched the artwork, but it still reads in full. It is a Restricted skin, and in CS2 the M4A1-S | Night Terror comes from the Dreams & Nightmares Case.

What the M4A1-S | Night Terror looks like in Well-Worn

The base is dark graphite-gray, with red handwriting over it. The writing covers the receiver, the carry handle, the magazine and the pistol grip: scraps of words, flourishes, schematic faces with empty eye sockets. Red is the only bright color here.

The suppressor is light, bone-colored, with small printed lines and a red ring at the base. The barrel and gas tube stay dark, and the front sight carries a short red mark. A light stripe with dense dark text runs along the magazine.

In Well-Worn the paint is knocked off at every raised spot. Light metal shows on the receiver ribs and the top edge of the magazine, and the red flourishes on the protrusions thin out and break. Large drawings on flat areas hold: the faces and the long lines can be seen whole.

Where the M4A1-S | Night Terror came from

The finish was made by Madara of the Steam Workshop. He posted the submission on October 18, 2021 under the title "M4A1-S: Insomnia". The idea was a rifle painted by someone who does not sleep.

In the description the author quoted lines of verse about the night and the search for light. Valve put one of them into the item description, so the caption on the skin is a quotation from the author himself. The name was changed for release: instead of "Insomnia", the finish came out as Night Terror.

The Dreams & Nightmares Collection came out on January 21, 2022. The case was preceded by a Workshop contest: Valve announced it in the summer of 2021, and seventeen selected works went into the case. In Valve's skin catalog the rifle is number 1130.

What to check before buying

Copies of the M4A1-S | Night Terror in this wear differ in small details. Between listings, compare these:

• the name tag and stickers that come with the listing;


• the edges of the receiver and the top of the magazine, where light metal shows first;


• how intact the red flourishes on the carry handle are.

The float band for this wear is 0.38 to 0.45, and the pattern is the same from copy to copy.

What the M4A1-S | Night Terror costs in Well-Worn

The gap to the clean wears is big: Factory New costs about two and a half times as much, and Minimal Wear about a third more. Well-Worn, though, costs roughly the same as Battle-Scarred and only a few percent more than Field-Tested.

Among Restricted skins of this model, the M4A1-S | Night Terror is third from the bottom by price, out of eight. The only cheaper ones are M4A1-S | Nitro and M4A1-S | Emphorosaur-S. Getting the M4A1-S | Night Terror

The first route is the case: the M4A1-S | Night Terror drops from the Dreams & Nightmares Case. The second is a trade-up, which takes ten skins of the next rank down from the same collection. How clean a contract copy comes out depends on its inputs.

StatTrak and Souvenir

There is a StatTrak version of the M4A1-S | Night Terror. Souvenir copies of the finish turn up as well, but no Souvenir Packages were ever released for it, since those were made only for tournament map collections. The background is full of small red graphics, so a sticker on the receiver competes with the drawing. Large single-color stickers look steadiest: black, white, cool blue. Red ones get lost among the flourishes. For a CS2 craft, the suppressor and stock have the most room.

Who this wear suits

Buying the M4A1-S | Night Terror in Well-Worn is reasonable in these situations:

• you want a dark rifle with handwritten graphics without paying extra for the clean wears;


• a predictable look matters: inside the 0.38 to 0.45 band, copies resemble one another;


• you want a kill-counter version on an inexpensive base.
