Description

The M4A1-S | Nightmare in Well-Worn (WW) sits at a float of 0.38 to 0.45, seven percent of the finish's scale. It is a Classified rifle from The Horizon Collection, with turquoise and blue scale-like swirls over a dark ground.

What the M4A1-S | Nightmare looks like in Well-Worn

The ground color is a deep navy that borders on black. Over it runs a pattern of glowing turquoise and light blue lines, something like scales or clawed shadows. The pattern covers the receiver, handguard and stock, while the suppressor stays dark with a blue ring. In Valve's description, the finish is a frightening visitor of the night.

In Well-Worn, scuffs break the pattern along the edges of the receiver and handguard. Wear is fixed at drop, so a listing at 0.38 will always be cleaner than one at 0.45.

Where the M4A1-S | Nightmare came from

The finish is the work of apel8, whose Workshop submission, "M4A1-S | Nightmare," went up on October 29, 2017. He says he drew on Game of Thrones, the character Venom, the Lich King and the game Prey. Valve's catalog numbers it 714, and the skin reached the game in August 2018.

What to check before buying

A few things are worth checking on an M4A1-S | Nightmare before you pay:

  • float: the wear fits inside 0.38 to 0.45, so listings look alike;

  • stickers left by a previous owner, and any rename.

There is no lucky pattern to hunt on the M4A1-S | Nightmare. There is only one.

What the M4A1-S | Nightmare costs in Well-Worn

The other wears, measured from this one:

  • Factory New costs 30 times as much;

  • Minimal Wear costs 3.29 times as much;

  • Field-Tested costs 1.33 times as much;

  • Battle-Scarred is level, with a gap under three percent.

Among the twelve Classified M4A1-S skins in this wear, the Nightmare sits in the lower third of the row. Closest below are the M4A1-S | Black Lotus and the M4A1-S | Stratosphere, and closest above are the M4A1-S | Leaded Glass and the M4A1-S | Party Animal. The M4A1-S | Master Piece tops the whole row.

Getting the M4A1-S | Nightmare

The skin drops from the Horizon Case. A trade-up contract leads to it as well: ten skins of the rank below go in from anywhere, and the result comes from the collection of one of the inputs. Putting in all ten from The Horizon Collection steers the result there, but nothing requires it.

StatTrak and Souvenir

The M4A1-S | Nightmare comes in a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were ever issued for this finish.

Stickers and craft on the M4A1-S | Nightmare

The dark ground holds light and neon stickers well, and blue and white ones read cleanly. Dark stickers get lost on the near-black body, so contrasting ones are the better choice.

Who this wear suits

An M4A1-S | Nightmare in Well-Worn makes sense when:

  • you want a CS2 M4A1-S with a turquoise pattern over a dark ground;

  • Factory New costs 30 times as much and clean paint is not a priority;

  • Battle-Scarred is priced level, and Well-Worn looks cleaner.
