M4A4 | Desolate Space (Field-Tested)

The M4A4 | Desolate Space in Field-Tested (FT) is the middle of the scale for the space-themed rifle from the Gamma Case. By wear that is the stretch from 0.15 to 0.38. It is Classified rank, and the skin drops from the Gamma Case. The collection was released on June 15, 2016.

What the M4A4 | Desolate Space looks like in Field-Tested

A space scene is painted on a dark base: a figure in a spacesuit, planets and a scatter of stars, all in a cold blue-violet palette. The scene lies on the sides of the receiver, while the magazine and stock stay almost plain. The artwork is large, so it reads in motion and not only up close.

In FT the scuffs follow the edges of the receiver and the trigger guard, that is, the borders of the scene. The spacesuit figure itself stays whole: it stands in the middle of the side, where wear arrives last. On a dark base the bright metal along the edges shows at once, and the closer the float is to 0.38, the wider that light strip becomes.

What to check before buying

When choosing an M4A4 | Desolate Space, pay attention to the following:

• float: on a dark ground the worn edges contrast sharply, and the difference between the ends of the band is easy to see;

• stickers and a name tag that come with the listing.

The skin has no pattern variants, and the market pays no premium for a pattern.

A band from 0.15 to 0.38 leaves room to choose: the nearer 0.15, the cleaner the example.

What the M4A4 | Desolate Space costs in Field-Tested

By price the wears run as follows:

• Factory New costs about five and a half times as much;

• Minimal Wear is dearer by about half again;

• Well-Worn comes in a few percent lower;

• Battle-Scarred is also a few percent lower.

The lower part of the ladder is nearly flat here: FT, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred cost practically the same. Dropping below FT to save money is therefore pointless, since you pay the same and get wider edges. The fivefold gap to Factory New comes from the dark base looking deeper on a clean body, without gray along the edges.

Getting the M4A4 | Desolate Space

The M4A4 | Desolate Space drops from the Gamma Case, which also defines its collection.

A trade-up contract can produce it as well, using ten skins one rank lower from this collection. AUG | Aristocrat, AWP | Phobos, P90 | Chopper, R8 Revolver | Reboot or Sawed-Off | Limelight all go in. With three Classified skins in the set, the outcome is random, and this rifle turns up one time in three. The wear of the result is set by the inputs.

The skin itself also works as an input. Ten Classified skins of the Gamma collection give one Covert skin, and the set has two of those, Glock-18 | Wasteland Rebel and M4A1-S | Mecha Industries.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the M4A4 | Desolate Space

The M4A4 | Desolate Space has a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were ever made for this finish, because packages only ever covered tournament map collections. A souvenir copy can still be built by hand. The Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory. That is why the odd souvenir copy turns up where no package was ever made.

The dark blue-violet base makes a convenient ground: almost any sticker reads on it, except dark blue ones. White and yellow stickers give the most contrast, and holographic ones work especially well because they echo the scatter of stars. The stock and magazine are free for a craft, and the sides with the scene are best left uncovered. For a CS2 set, the rifle suits as a dark base under light stickers.

Who this wear suits

Field-Tested is worth buying for the M4A4 | Desolate Space when:

• you want a dark rifle for CS2 without the fivefold premium for the clean wear;

• there is no reason to go lower, since the lower wears cost the same;

• you like a large scene that is visible in motion.

The light edges contrast more on it than on busy finishes. If you want an even body, take listings closer to 0.18.
