The M4A4 | Howl in Minimal Wear (MW) is a purchase about rank before condition. Contraband, and CS2 has no second item holding it. The finish left production, no case lists it, and the supply never grows. Minimal Wear covers 0.07 to 0.15 here, and only Factory New sits cleaner.
What the M4A4 | Howl looks like in Minimal Wear
The base is a dark gray near graphite. Torn red bands cross it, thickest on the handguard and the stock. Above the magazine sits a howling wolf's head in orange-yellow flame, fangs bared, its open jaw wrapping the trigger guard. The pistol grip is solid red, the carrying handle and sights dark, the muzzle bare.
Scuffing gathers where the body stands proud: handguard ribs, magazine corners, carrying-handle lip, butt plate. Red pales there toward a pinkish gray, while the dark base beside it stays even. The wolf's head lies on a flat panel, so this wear leaves flame and fangs intact.
Where the M4A4 | Howl came from
The finish went live on May 1, 2014. Six weeks later came Valve's note "Respecting Intellectual Property", dated June 12, 2014. Workshop authors sign off on a submission's originality and answer for it jointly, so the fallout reached both names on the entry. The art on the rifle today came from the CS:GO team, and the items moved to Contraband rank.
The same note retired every other item those authors drew a share on. The Huntsman Weapon Case and a community sticker capsule were rebuilt without them. The item is number 309 in the catalog of finishes.
What to check before buying
What matters when buying the M4A4 | Howl:
- the float inside 0.07 to 0.15, whose top end lightens the handguard ribs;
- the version, since StatTrak and plain are separate listings at separate prices;
- Stickers and an applied name left by the previous owner.
The band is short, so copies resemble each other, and none carries a "rare" pattern — the artwork is identical.
What the M4A4 | Howl costs in Minimal Wear
The finish has four conditions. The float scale stops at 0.40, leaving Well-Worn a narrow tail from 0.38 and Battle-Scarred out of existence. Factory New runs about a third dearer, Field-Tested about a sixth cheaper.
Contraband holds one item, so rank gives nothing to measure against. Among M4A4s in this wear the Howl is the dearest, and the step down to M4A4 | Poseidon is roughly fivefold. Red finishes on the model, M4A4 | The Coalition and M4A4 | Daybreak among them, come in more than ten times cheaper.
Getting the M4A4 | Howl
One route exists: a finished listing. The case that dropped the finish in 2014 was rebuilt without it, and the item belongs to no collection, so the contract reaches it neither as input nor as result.
StatTrak and Souvenir
Stickers and craft on the M4A4 | Howl
The M4A4 | Howl has a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were ever made for this finish, because packages only ever covered tournament map collections. A souvenir copy can still be built by hand. The Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory. That is why the odd souvenir copy turns up where no package was ever made.
A dark base with red carries almost any sticker. Only cool and white tones hold beside the wolf: red on red bands disappears. The stock, handguard and magazine are open ground, and a craft here is final — no sticker comes off clean.
Who this wear suits
Buying the M4A4 | Howl here makes sense on any one of these:
- a nearly clean body is wanted without the Factory New premium;
- the rank matters more than the condition, since no new copies will enter CS2;
- the rifle goes to an inventory inspected up close, where the edges show.
In a match MW and Factory New are the same rifle. The difference collects on the edges, visible in the preview before payment.
