SSG 08 | Grey Smoke (Minimal Wear)

The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke in Minimal Wear (MW) is a gray Consumer Grade Scout from The Ascent Collection, available to both sides. This wear is given floats from 0.07 to 0.15, which is 13% of the skin's range, and that range runs from 0.00 to 0.60.

What the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke looks like in Minimal Wear

Every part of the rifle sits in the gray range. Smoky swirls in graphite, black and pale tones run across the receiver and chassis, and their borders are hard. The barrel, scope tube and grip are dark, almost black, which is why the pattern reads on the metal of the receiver.

With light wear the pale lines stay unbroken, and scuffs gather on the edges and corners of the chassis. The float is set at the drop and never changes. Between 0.07 and 0.15 the gap from one listing to the next is small.

Where the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke came from

This skin dates from March 2025, the month The Ascent Collection joined the game. Its number in Valve's catalog is 1271. The description is short: a graphic pattern in grayscale. The caption is a line of dialogue, "Do you know how much color cartridges cost?!"

What to check before buying

Choosing a specific copy comes down to these points:

• the float inside 0.07 to 0.15: listings differ only slightly;

• the name tag and stickers already applied to the Scout.

The artwork is applied the same way across the entire run, so the pattern does not tell one listing from another.

What the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke costs in Minimal Wear

Together with Field-Tested, this is the most expensive wear of the skin. Factory New, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred are about 1.4 times cheaper, and Field-Tested costs the same.

Among the nine Consumer Grade SSG 08 skins, this one sits toward the bottom, with only SSG 08 | Sans Comic cheaper. SSG 08 | Green Ceramic and SSG 08 | Blue Spruce cost the same, and SSG 08 | Prey costs about ten percent more. SSG 08 | Jungle Dashed costs a little over three times as much. At the top of the line, SSG 08 | Sand Dune costs tens of times more.

Getting the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke

No CS2 case contains the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke. The Ascent Collection is part of the Weekly Care Package reward list, and copies arrive from there.

A contract cannot build this rifle, since Consumer Grade is the bottom rank of the set. Going the other way, ten Consumer Grade skins from The Ascent Collection give one of nine Industrial Grade skins.

StatTrak and Souvenir

A StatTrak version of the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke was never released. There were no Souvenir packages for this skin either. You can still make a Souvenir copy yourself, since the Souvenir-O-Matic applies gold tournament stickers and a player autograph to a regular skin.

Stickers and craft on the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke

Grayscale gives a neutral background, and colored stickers read well on it. White and silver ones get lost in the pale swirls, and black ones on the graphite areas of the chassis. The dark barrel and scope tube suit light stickers.

Who this wear suits

The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke makes sense in this wear if:

• you want a gray Scout for CS2 with no colored spots and light wear;

• colored stickers in CS2 need a neutral base;

• the float must not go past 0.15.

If some wear is acceptable, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred are about 1.4 times cheaper.
