StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror (Field-Tested)

StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror in Field-Tested (FT): a Restricted skin from the Dreams & Nightmares Case, with a kill counter. The float in this wear runs between 0.15 and 0.38. The StatTrak version costs about two-thirds more than the regular one in this wear.

What the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror looks like in Field-Tested

Valve describes the thoughts of a sleepless person scratched across the whole rifle. The base is dark, gray-olive and scuffed. Angular red scrawls run over it: on the carry handle, the receiver side, the grip and the magazine. Above the magwell there is a dark silhouette that looks like a head. The magazine is gray with a brown-gold panel, and the suppressor has a red ring.

The base itself looks worn, so marks of wear in FT are harder to tell apart on it than on clean finishes. The thin red strokes lie along the raised edges. The degree of wear is written into the float and fixed when the skin drops.

Where the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror came from

The author of the finish is Madara. The "M4A1-S: Insomnia" submission appeared on the Steam Workshop on October 18, 2021, three days before entries closed for the Dreams & Nightmares contest. Its text presents the finish as a product of a fictional company, Eternity (etr.company): the work was written into Valve's world, with realism kept in every detail. Valve's in-game caption is a line from the poem that ends the submission.

The Dreams & Nightmares Collection came out on January 21, 2022, and the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror has been part of it since release. The finish's number in Valve's catalog is 1130.

What to check before buying

Before paying for a StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror, it helps to check:

• the counter reading: it stays on the item, and the buyer cannot reset it;

• the float within the 0.15 to 0.38 band: near the upper edge there is noticeably more wear;

• the applied name tag and stickers, which remain on this StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror.

There is no point hunting for the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror by pattern index: the artwork does not change. It is better to search by the number than by the wear label, because the 0.15 to 0.38 band is wide.

The StatTrak Swap Tool exchanges the reading with another item of the same type, and the counters of the two items simply pass to each other.

What the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror costs in Field-Tested

The other wears of the kill-counter version stand against this one like so:

• for Factory New you pay almost four times as much;

• Minimal Wear costs about seven tenths more;

• Well-Worn costs about two-thirds more;

• Battle-Scarred costs more than twice as much.

In the row of eight Restricted M4A1-S skins with a counter, the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror is second from the bottom. Only StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Emphorosaur-S is cheaper. One skin costs about three times as much, M4A1-S | Electrum four times, M4A1-S | Liquidation about six times and M4A1-S | Basilisk about twenty. The two at the top cost about sixty and a hundred times as much.

Getting the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror

From the Dreams & Nightmares Case, the kill-counter version drops in place of the regular one. A trade-up for it can only be built from ten StatTrak skins, since the game does not accept a mix of regular and StatTrak items. The Dreams & Nightmares Collection has five Restricted finishes, so the odds on a particular one are one in five.

StatTrak and Souvenir

The regular M4A1-S | Night Terror without a counter is a separate product with its own page and price, and in Field-Tested it is cheaper by almost two-fifths. There is no Souvenir version with a counter: Souvenir items in the game come without StatTrak.

Stickers and craft on the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror

On a dark base with red scrawls, light stickers read well: white, gold and silver. Red and black ones merge with the artwork. The gray stock and the body of the suppressor stay the freest areas, and the red tags on the receiver side are best left uncovered.

Who this wear suits

Buying the StatTrak™ M4A1-S | Night Terror in Field-Tested is reasonable if:

• you want a CS2 rifle with a kill counter, not just a clean body;

• price within the counter versions matters: among eight Restricted rifles, this one is second from the bottom;

• you need a dark background under light stickers in a CS2 craft.

Going for Factory New would cost almost four times as much.
