UMP-45 | Wild Child (Field-Tested)

This is the UMP-45 | Wild Child in Field-Tested (FT), bought for its busy artwork rather than clean edges. The grade takes the 0.15 to 0.38 band. The rank is Classified, and the UMP-45 | Wild Child drops from the Revolution Case.

What the UMP-45 | Wild Child looks like in Field-Tested

The submachine gun is scrawled over with childish doodles laid across blocks of color. The base is dark crimson and plum, with blocks of turquoise, yellow and pink set on it, and the doodles themselves drawn in pink, yellow, turquoise and blue. The stock is built from angular turquoise, yellow and pink patches, the magazine pink-crimson with a gold stripe, trigger and charging handle pink. Top rail and part of the barrel stay dark metal.

Paint covers receiver, handguard, stock, grip and magazine, while the rail, barrel and small mechanics carry no artwork. No single large figure anchors the design: doodles own the whole field, and among them little men, stars, hearts, triangles, circles and small animals can be picked out. There is lettering in the drawing, but none of it reads.

The doodles are thin marker lines, and in Field-Tested they have already gone from the raised parts. Bare blocks of color come through on the receiver ribs, handguard edge, stock corners and the lip of the magazine. The blocks lie on flat surfaces and hold out longer, so the motley palette survives this grade intact.

Where the UMP-45 | Wild Child came from

The finish is the work of a Steam Workshop artist going by kiku. He posted the submission on August 10, 2022 under the working title "UMP // XmmX". He explained the idea in a single line: not everything has to be new and bright.

The Revolution Collection carrying the skin came out on February 9, 2023. Valve's announcement described the case as seventeen community finishes, with Clutch Case gloves as the rare special items. The catalog numbers the artwork 1236.

What to check before buying

Listings of the UMP-45 | Wild Child are compared on this:

• the float: at 0.15 the marker lines are whole nearly everywhere, at 0.38 the ribs are already bare;

• the state of the handguard edge and the stock corners, where the artwork goes first;

• the stickers and name tag already on that particular copy.

Picking inside 0.15 to 0.38 is worth the trouble, as the two ends of the stretch look different. There is no pattern roll here: what one listing shows, the rest show too.

What the UMP-45 | Wild Child costs in Field-Tested

Factory New asks about three and a half times as much, Minimal Wear about one and a half times. Downward the gap nearly closes: Well-Worn is cheaper by a few percent, Battle-Scarred by around a fifth.

Among Classified UMP-45 finishes this one is the cheapest of five in its grade. UMP-45 | K.O. Factory and UMP-45 | Momentum ask roughly a third more, UMP-45 | Primal Saber close to four times as much.

Getting the UMP-45 | Wild Child

The first route is the Revolution Case. For a contract, ten skins one step down from this collection are gathered. The set holds three Classified finishes, so the outcome of the trade-up is random.

StatTrak and Souvenir

Stickers and craft on the UMP-45 | Wild Child

The UMP-45 | Wild Child has a StatTrak version. No Souvenir packages were ever made for this finish, because packages only ever covered tournament map collections. A souvenir copy can still be built by hand. The Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a normal skin from the inventory. That is why the odd souvenir copy turns up where no package was ever made.

Free ground on this finish is scarce: color and doodles have taken the receiver, handguard and stock. A bright sticker is lost in that clutter, while large white and black ones with a contrasting outline still read. For a craft in CS2 the side of the receiver above the magazine serves, the flattest stretch of the body.

Who this wear suits

Buying the UMP-45 | Wild Child in Field-Tested is reasonable if:

• a motley Classified submachine gun for CS2 at the bottom price of its rank is the goal;

• choosing a listing nearer the lower end of 0.15 to 0.38 is worth doing;

• paying extra for unbroken marker lines is not.

Further down the scale the blocks of color stay where they are, and the lines on the ribs are gone for good. Whole artwork lives in Minimal Wear.
