This is not the first time the US Army has shown interest in e-sports. The country's navy and the e-sports organization "Evil Geniuses" entered into a partnership agreement. Based on its results, EG will have to assist in preparing a team that will include US Navy personnel.
It is planned that "Evil Geniuses" will offer a program of tests and qualifying competitions, based on the results of which the five best players will be selected. The format of the competition is still a subject of discussion. It is planned that the new CS:GO team will be formed by September: the organizers plan to present it at the TwitchCon festival, which will take place in the fall in San Diego.
This is not the first step by the US Navy in this direction: the Navy previously collaborated with the American e-sports organization “compLexity”, and also acted as a sponsor of tournaments. Since 2019, the US Navy Esports club has also been performing. Although it has not yet achieved significant success in competitions, representatives of the US Army believe that its very presence helps attract young people into the ranks of the armed forces.
