Ukrainian team Akuma announced its disbandment. On Friday, a post about this was published by one of its participants, Evgeniy “j3kie” Sergachev, and the next day the information was confirmed by other participants.
The team came into the limelight a few months ago when they unexpectedly took third place in the EPIC League CIS. Suspicions of foul play were raised against her, and other tournament participants wrote to Valve, urging the organization to push for stricter enforcement of anti-cheating protocols during competitions. In addition, several representatives of the Akuma project were investigated due to suspicious bets on match results. As a result, ESIC recommended that tournament organizers not accept applications from Akuma or any other teams that will have more than three of its participants.
After the unexpected success at the EPIC League CIS, the team never managed to show a similar level. At the next rating tournament for the CIS countries, Star Ladder CIS RMR, she could not rise above 9 – 10th place. The recent performance at IEM Fall CIS was even more disastrous, where the team lost all five matches, ended up in last place and missed the chance to get to the PGL Major in Stockholm.
