European Apeks, which currently includes players from Slovakia, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, won the Tipsport Bratislava Cup tournament, held in Bratislava (Slovakia). The team, currently ranked 29th in the world rankings, performed almost flawlessly at this LAN event. In the group stage, she beat ECLOT and Enterprise to secure a place in the playoffs, and then left eSuba and SINNERS behind on her way to the main trophy.
The championship title and approximately $22,000 in prize money will be some consolation for Apeks, who, although performing well after assembling their current roster in January, failed to qualify for the BLAST Spring Showdown or earn a spot at the European RMR tournament.
An additional difficulty for Apeks was the fact that one of its members, Martin “STYKO”, tested positive for coronavirus. Stika tested positive on the eve of the playoffs. Although the Slovakian eSports player could not participate in matches with the others because of this, the tournament organizers allowed him to join the game from behind the stage. Ultimately, these difficulties did not prevent him from showing high performance. Based on the sum of all matches, he turned out to be the most productive player in the team along with Tim “nawwk” Jonasson, showing a rating of 1.22.
