On May 17, the final match of the European division of the ESL One: Road to Rio championship took place, in which the Danish team Astralis and the Serbian-French G2 met. It’s hard to imagine a more convincing victory: the Danes won with a score of 3:0, defeating G2 on two maps in a row (they gained another advantage point due to their successful play in the previous stage). Astralis played on Nuke with a score of 16:6 and on Vertigo with a score of 16:2.
Thanks to this victory, the Danish team not only became the leader of the tournament, adding $33,000 in prize money to their account, but also strengthened their position in the regional rankings. It is the position in it that will subsequently determine which teams will receive an invitation to the ESL One Rio tournament.
Thus, the first three places at the Road to Rio tournament were taken by Astralis, G2 and FaZe. In the European rankings, Astralis is 720 points ahead of G2, followed by Vitality, FaZe and ENCE with a slight lag. However, the situation may change more than once: the teams will have to play the StarLadder Major and two more tournaments, the holding of which will be announced soon. 11 European teams will be invited to ESL One Rio, and their position in the bracket will determine their ranking.
