The Danish team Astralis lost to Gambit in the group qualifying match at IEM Summer and will now leave the tournament. Having suffered a defeat with a score of 2 – 0, Astralis ended up at 9 – 12th place. This result – another disappointment for fans of the team after they took sixth place at Flashpoint 3 and expected to show at least the same or better result at IEM Summer.
The most successful player in the Gambit match against Astralis was Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov, who achieved a rating of 1.81. On Inferno, the CIS team managed to gain an advantage from the very beginning, and although Astralis were able to win back a few points, Gambit finished the map very convincingly, winning seven rounds in a row. They managed to maintain dominance on Overpass, leaving this map behind with a score of 16 – 7. Now Gambit needs to win one more victory to advance to the next part of the tournament – in the near future they will have to play against Complexity.
Another notable match of the group stage was OG’s victory over Virtus.pro. Now the latter will have to fight for reaching the finals in the lower bracket of the tournament, and OG will play an elimination match with Evil Geniuses. The group stage of IEM Summer will end this week, and key playoff games will take place on 12 – June 13.
