The German team BIG won the charity tournament Gamers Without Borders 2021. The project, organized with the support of the Saudi Arabian Federation of Esports and Intellectual Games (SAFEIS), awarded a prize fund of a total of $1.5 million. All teams donated the funds received to various charitable organizations.
The Gamers Without Borders 2021 tournament took place from July 22 to 28. Eight teams occupying the top positions in the world rankings took part in it, in particular, FaZe, mousesports, MIBR and others. The higher the place taken by the players according to the results of the competition, the larger part of the prize pool they could dispose of, choosing which charitable projects to allocate it to. The organizers of the competition, who are holding them for the second year in a row, explain that their main task is – to help developing countries and vulnerable communities combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The competition took place in two stages: first, matches were played within two groups of four teams each, and then the group leaders competed for first place in the playoffs. All matches were played in the best of 3 format. As a result, the leaders of the tournament were BIG (they donated the prize money to the international organization International Medical Corps), FURIA and ENCE (these two teams donated the winnings to the UNICEF fund).
