The largest tournament organizer, ESL, recently spoke about how the Pro Tour will change next year and what the calendar of events will be like. The innovations mainly concern the structure of competitions within the Pro League and how participants will be selected.
Now all competitions taking place within the Pro Tour will be united under the ESL brand. DreamHack Open will receive a new name - ESL Challenger, and instead of ESEA Premier, the ESL Challenger League will be held. Consequently, the selection procedure for competitions will also change. If previously DreamHack Open existed largely separately from the EPL, then in the future the latter will become the ultimate goal for the leaders of the Challenger series tournaments mentioned above. In addition, the EPT Conference series will be an intermediate stage on the path to participation in the ESL Pro League. The first event in this series will take place in November this year.
ESL representatives also mentioned that the organization of the Rio Major in 2022 is now in question after it could not be held in 2020 due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation. In addition, the published ESL calendar lists the dates and locations of Masters series tournaments – in addition to the expected Katowice and Cologne, the list mentions locations in the USA and China.
