At the group stage of IEM Fall North America, the fate of one of the matches was decided in an unexpected way: the Triumph team was given a technical defeat against Evil Geniuses due to the fact that Triumph player Jack “xCeeD” Holyman slept through the start of the match.
Due to the transition of Brendan “Bwills” Williams in another Triumph team has already included their reserve player, Wesley “viz”, in the roster. Harris, and therefore they had no one to put in place of xCeeD who did not come to the match. An additional reason for disappointment was the fact that the first map was supposed to be Nuke, on which Evil Geniuses had never won in the last six months, while Triumph had excellent command of the game on it. As a result, Triumph ended up in fifth place in Group B, and Evil Geniuses – on the fourth.
For Evil Geniuses, this free victory is of critical importance, since before this the score of victories and defeats in the group for them was 1 – 1. What happened jeopardized not only Triumph’s chances of leaving the group, but also the likelihood of getting to the PGL Stockholm Major. Even if a team finishes the tournament in fifth place, the rating points it receives will not be enough to guarantee a place at the major, and its fate will depend on how its closest competitor performs – EXTREMUM team, which currently ranks second in Group A.
