FunSpark and 5EPlay announced on Saturday that they will be holding a new tournament in Europe between April 19 and April 26. The prize fund for the competition will be $250,000. In fact, this event will be a replacement for FunSpark ULTI LAN, which had to be postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last fall it became known that the tournament, which was supposed to take place in China in December, would be canceled due to restrictions on international flights and the difficult epidemic situation.
Eight top teams are expected to take part in the competition. It is already known that Virtus.pro, BIG and Complexity received invitations. All three teams are among the top ten teams in the world, with Virtus.pro taking third place on this list after their recent successful performance at IEM Katowice. The number of participants will also include teams that previously qualified for the canceled tournament during closed qualifying matches – HAVU and ForZe from Europe and Extra Salt from North America. FURIA also received an invitation to the tournament, but refused to participate, explaining that the team would not be in Europe during the period when the competition would be held.
Thus, the number of participants included eight teams from the USA, Europe and the CIS. Competitions in the double elimination format will begin on April 19.
