G2 are planning a coaching change

In the middle of the week, the management of the G2 team announced that Damien "maLeK" Marcel, who served as its head coach for three years, leaves this position. MaLeK has been collaborating with G2 since 2018, and under his leadership, several of its lineups have achieved notable success. In particular, in 2019 the team took first places in the Championship Cup Finals and in the Good Game League.

However, we failed to win at larger tournaments – At both IEM Katowice 2020 and IEM Cologne 2021, G2 failed. This is largely due to the fact that the team was never able to fully adapt to the online format. Returning to the usual LAN matches at PGL Major Stockholm, G2 demonstrated their previous brilliant play, reaching the grand final, but were unable to defeat Natus Vincere.

At the same time, G2 representatives note that the decision to leave Marcel is not directly related to the results of the tournament and was made several weeks ago, even before the major. Ian "Swani" will temporarily take over as G2's head coach. Muller. It is still unclear who will get this position on a permanent basis. It is possible that the management of the esports organization is considering Serbian esportsman Luka “emi” as one of the candidates. Vukovich, who until recently collaborated with FunPlus Phoenix.
