The recently released update for Counter-Strike 2 brought several important changes. Valve continues to send out new waves of invitations, which means more and more active players are gaining access to the new version. It's time to figure out how innovations can affect the gameplay and what will change for those who strive for high achievements.

What do MR12 and MR15 mean

The abbreviation MR hides the phrase “Max Round”, that is, the maximum number of rounds in a match before changing sides. Thus, the familiar system from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can be designated as MR15 – 15 rounds are played before changing sides, and the maximum number of rounds in a match – 30, and in case of equality on points, overtime is assigned.

The transition to MR12, that is, matches with 12 rounds before changing sides, should, according to the developers, make the game more dynamic. However, in the early days, this innovation caused a negative reaction from the community: many mention that the game’s economy is not designed for such a format, pistol rounds will gain even more weight, and it will be more difficult for teams to win back if they lose several points in a row.

However, we should not forget that in CS 1.6 this exact match length was used. The game's economy was structured somewhat differently back then, but CS2 also has features that can make this format interesting. First and foremost is how the rewards are structured for the team that loses the round. Losing one round or even several in a row allows the team to accumulate resources and win back.

It is not yet clear whether the introduction of the new format will lead to any adjustments in the game's economy. After all, the closed beta is all about understanding how well the new system works. In any case, teams will have to adapt – which means that viewers can expect surprises and non-standard scenarios. Therefore, many game experts agree that changes should not be rejected simply because they are unusual – time will tell how well the MR12 will fit into the game and whether any further adjustments will be needed.

CS2 Player Rating

Another new addition is the rating system, which looks like it could force many players to leave third-party platforms like FACEIT and return to official matchmaking. The emergence of the Premier mode, which is as close as possible to the competitive format, can push them towards this. Players will have access to regional and global leaderboards. The starting rating is calculated after the calibration process, during which the player needs to win ten victories.

The ratings that players have earned in CS:GO will not go away and will be transferred to the new game. But there is one difference: now they will be tied to specific cards, so you can, for example, have Legendary Eagle status on one of them and just Silver on another. This makes it easier for players to know which maps to work on before competing in Premier mode. According to Reddit users, at the moment, to rise to the Global Elite level, you need to score more than 18 thousand points.

So the Premier rank becomes the rest and is what players will value the most, while the old ranks end up being secondary.
