Esports organization Gambit announced that Konstantin “groove” Pikiner will leave the position of its sports director, which he has held since 2018. In the future, groove plans to concentrate on coaching. The statement notes that he devoted more and more time to it in the last year and a half, and now wants to focus exclusively on this area.
The news about groove's departure from its leadership position appeared a little more than a day after insider Alexey “OverDrive” posted a tweet on Tuesday in which he mentioned that the current Gambit lineup is now up for sale. Previously, ESL suspended Gambit from participating in ESL Pro League Season 15 due to “ties with the Russian government,” and BLAST decided not to invite teams based in Russia to their competitions. Restrictions on Gambit are due to the fact that it belongs to MTS, which, in turn, is associated with one of the Russian businessmen included in the sanctions list.
The Gambit team, led by Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov, were allowed to participate in ESL Pro League Season 15 under the neutral name Players. It remains unclear whether Gambit's suspension as an organization will extend to groove, who is now no longer its sporting director.
