In this blog I would like to discuss console commands in Dota 2. Considering that the game is based on Valve's Source 2 engine, there are a huge number of possibilities. The main thing — understand what and where to click. And why do you need it in general.

Let's say right away that the commands can be divided into several categories:

  • optimization;

  • graphics settings;

  • binds;

  • interface settings;

  • cheats (for single training only).

How to open the console

To use the console, you must enable this feature. Here Valve got a little tricky, making the process completely unintuitive. First you need to open the Steam application for PC, go to the game library and right-click on the Dota icon.

Find the “Properties” item, then go to the “General” section. and set launch options. Here in the field you need to enter the command “-console” (without quotes).

Now, to activate the console in the game, just press the "/" button. If necessary, the key can be changed to any other. Often they choose “~” similar to CS:GO.

If you don’t want the console to automatically start when you start Dota, write the command in it:

At the same time, “-console” remove from Steam.

For the future, remember that “1” — turns on the parameter, and "0" — disables. All that remains is to figure out how to set up a team in Dota 2.

Enable optimization for weak hardware

Even though the game is already 10 years old, the Source 2 game engine is still quite demanding. Moreover, Dota has a lot of sparkling effects that greatly reduce FPS, but we don’t need that.

Therefore, open the console and do the following:

They reduce the requirements for global illumination, processor and video card. In fact, they allow you to play on almost any old computer.

HUD settings

Ping — shows the ping of allies and enemies;

dota_force_right_click_attack 1 — finishing off your creeps with the right mouse button;

dota_shop_force_hotkeys 1 — disabling the hotkey for the store;

dota_player_units_auto_attack 1 — disable auto-attack;

dota_ability_quick_cast 1 — quick cast;

dota_sf_game_end_delay 0 — quick match table;

dota_sf_hud_killcam "1" — includes killcam (who killed you and how much damage they caused);

glow_outline_effect_enable "1" — highlights units;

dota_health_hurt_decay_time_max "0" — delays damage in the HP bar;

volume "0.5" — increase/decrease the volume of effects from 0 to 1;

snd_musicvolume "0" — decrease/increase music volume;

rate "80000" — expands network capacity;

cl_updaterate "40" — adjustment of incoming updates (for slow Internet);

cl_cmdrate "40" — adjustment of outgoing updates (for slow Internet);

How to set a command in Dota 2? Turn on the console and configure it to your liking. Preferably in training mode, so as not to disturb anyone. 

Simplying training in single mode

To test a new character or tactic, you don’t have to spend a long time and painstakingly gaining experience, farming gold and monotonously killing creeps. You can greatly simplify the process of achieving your goal. It is enough to set up a team in Dota 2 in training mode, since nothing will work in a network game.

dota_hero_level «quantity» — level up;

dota_bot_give_level «quantity» — increasing the level of bots;

dota_create_item "name" — issuance of any item;

dota_bot_give_item "name" — issuing any item to bots;

dota_give_gold «quantity» — get rich quick;

dota_hero_refresh — instant CD of skills/HP/mana;

dota_hero_respawn — fast TP/res on the fountain;

dota_start_game — autostart;

dota_ability_debug_enable / dota_ability_debug_disable — disables/enables CD and mana cost

dota_all_vision_enable / dota_all_vision_disable — turns on/off the fog of war;

dota_clear_wards — kills all Observs;

dota_kill_wards — kills all wards on the map;

dota_spawn_rune — rune spawn;

dota_spawn_creeps — creep respawn;

dota_spawn_neutrals — respawn of neutral creeps;

dota_creeps_no_spawning_enable / dota_creeps_no_spawning_disable — disables/enables creep spawning;

dota_create_unit "name" — spawn of any unit;

dota_respawn_roshan "command" — revive Roshan.

We do not recommend getting carried away with these teams, since in a real game you will be severely disappointed. The more you use cheats — the more difficult it is to adapt to the standard rhythm of the gameplay.

How to put a team icon in Dota 2

Not long ago, one of the Dota 2 players discovered the free option of installing a team icon next to their nickname, and for free. 

We suggest sharing the list of actions:

  • turn on and open the console panel;

  • type the command “dota_dpc_set_favorite_team X” without quotes, where X — team number (for example, 4 — EHOME, 36 — NAVI, 1883502 — Virtus.Pro);

  • wait a few minutes/hours and the logo will appear.
