North will cease operations

Danish esports organization North, associated with the football club F.C. Copenhagen and Nordisk Film, announced its closure on Friday. Its owners cited problems arising from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the industry as the main explanation.

“Of course, we are sorry that we are forced to make the decision to close the Danish project North, which has left a significant mark on esports at the international level,” said Lars Bo Jeppesen, chairman of the company. – We studied the market, hoping to find one or more investors, but, unfortunately, we did not find any suitable options. To create a business that will be stable in the future, large investments are needed, and therefore we decided to concentrate on our core business – working with FC Copenhagen».

North began competing in CS:GO competitions in 2017 – then it included players who had previously played in Dignitas. The team reached the finals of major tournaments several times, but failed to win any significant victories. Subsequently, one of her highest achievements was winning a prize at DreamHack Masters Stockholm. In November 2020, the team announced that it planned to change its strategy by training its own young players instead of recruiting those who had already proven themselves. Last month, the team completed the selection of a new roster, but in the end the management decided to disband it.
