On October 18, the shooter developers released an update, adding several commands and eliminating a couple of bugs. Everything would be fine, if not for one “but”: the alias system was completely redesigned, which caused sharp criticism from pro-players. Let's take a closer look at this situation.

What Does Alias Mean?

Alias in CS 2 – it was an alias for a command that could be used to execute multiple commands in one action. Previously, this feature made it possible to conveniently combine commands into one action. Let's say, "alias "+jp" "+jump" creates a new jp command. When introduced, the character will jump.

In the CS 2 series, aliases received a limited scope due to the fact that, according to the developers, only a small part of the audience used them. But professional players have their own opinion on this matter.

For them, the speed at which they move is important: every shift to the side, height and length of the jump matters. In the previous version of the shooter, CS:GO, all the movements were the same, but in the current one everything has changed. They are not counted only between ticks: each movement begins and ends after the corresponding signal is received from the keyboard. In other words, every movement in the game is now unique.

The developers worked on all the commands that are responsible for movement, but lost sight of the aliases. Before the latest updates, they worked in the same way as in CS:GO, that is, all movements and jumps were the same. After their introduction, everything changed, and this can be seen especially clearly in the example of jumping. The developers prove that they are the same, but in practice it turns out to be the opposite.

In the current version of the shooter, the initial speed is determined by the moment at which the player starts moving.

Opinion of Pro-Players on Current Changes

Chad Burchill (Spunj), a professional Counter-Strike player, is outraged by such innovations. Of course, he himself promoted the benefits of aliases and actively used such commands. He believes that they made the game better, and is extremely unhappy that they were literally banned.

Another professional, Twistzz, supports the previous player. He really hopes that the previous version of aliases will be returned and it will work as it should.

Elige believes that such actions by the developers will spoil, if not all, then many players’ impression of the new version of the shooter. He tested and proved in practice that now movements and jumps are inconsistent.

Current Situation

It is known that aliases are already limited in ESL tournaments. They prohibit some commands that are responsible for movement (for example, bind "w" "+w", alias "+w" "+forward; alias checkw _checkw").

IEM Sydney are still playing on the old patch.

What Will Happen Next?

There is a possibility that problems with inconsistency of movements are caused by errors in calculating distance: so, the server may compensate the user for speed, while forgetting about the distance that must be covered in a few milliseconds. Motion problems may arise as a result. If this is indeed the case, and the problem is not related to the limitations of the new engine, then after the appropriate fixes the game will have an ideal system installed.

It is interesting that the game developer Valve has still not explained what it wants to achieve with such innovations.
