PGL revealed how teams will be seeded in the majors

Tournament organizer PGL spoke about how the distribution of participants will occur at those stages of the major that should be played out according to the Swiss system. As it turns out, PGL and Valve will return the player seeding system using the Buchholz coefficient, which was used at the FACEIT Major in 2018. The Challenges and Legends stages will use a scheme that uses the results of matches already played to assess how difficult teams will be against each other and pair opponents with the same win-loss record.

Thus, to distribute teams in the initial matches of each stage, the RMR rating will be used according to the scheme that has already been published earlier. As a result, at the Challenger stage the first two rounds will be held according to a predetermined scheme taking into account the rating, and in the third, fourth and fifth pairs of opponents will be made using the Buchholz coefficient. The match schedule will be formed in a similar way at the Legends stage.

The peculiarity of this method is that it takes into account not only the number of victories and defeats, but also how difficult the team’s opponents were.
