ESEA has announced that five players are being suspended due to an ESIC match-fixing investigation – an organization that monitors compliance with the rules of fair play in eSports. Three former Rebirth players and two OCG members were charged.
This decision was made after the Dust2.us portal published an audio recording, allegedly made in October 2020, in which several e-sportsmen explicitly discuss plans to organize match-fixing in the ESEA MDL. Three players who were then playing for Rebirth mention that they had reached an agreement with the Russian Canadians that the opposing captain would broadcast his radar image to them. The matches in question were eventually postponed or canceled after players became aware of the possible existence of the incriminating tape.
Player suspensions will remain in effect throughout the current ESEA Premier season. ChockoCheck, which two of the offenders currently play for, has enough members to provide replacements. But OGG will most likely have to drop out of the competition, since there are currently no reserve players in its roster.
