PGL, which is set to organize the major in October-November, issued a statement this week saying that there is still a chance of holding the tournament in Stockholm in an offline format. The final decision will depend on what steps local authorities will take in the near future.
The company mentioned that the key dates will be August 23 and September 15. Swedish authorities are expected to lift the temporary entry ban in August so that both players and spectators will be able to enter the country. In mid-September, restrictions on public events indoors should also be lifted, and then it will be possible to hold the PGL Major in the usual format with the presence of spectators.
The organizers emphasized that the presence of fans is key to the holding of the major. If, due to changes in the epidemiological situation, restrictions are extended and the majority of viewers cannot attend the show, they will look for an opportunity to move it to another location. A statement released by PGL said that the company is looking forward to holding the knockout rounds of the tournament in Stockholm, but at the same time is ready to postpone it if it turns out that anti-epidemic restrictions do not allow this in September.
