This week, the Swedish authorities made a decision that makes holding the PGL Major Stockholm in an offline format more likely. They have included eSports tournaments among the professional sports that participants can enter the country without having to comply with the restrictions in force for other travelers.
Thus, one of the two conditions that the tournament organizers called as necessary for its holding is fulfilled. As PGL has previously stated, it is necessary to ensure that staff and players can easily enter the country, and in addition, that a large number of spectators can attend the event.
Swedish Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind noted that she is pleased with the possibility of holding international esports events despite the pandemic. She emphasized that Sweden has long been considered one of the leaders in e-sports and must maintain this position.
Thus, the only problem for organizing a major now remains restrictions on mass events. The current rules for holding them may not allow gathering 16,000 spectators at the Avicii Arena stadium. The date of the final decision will be September 15, and the tournament itself should take place from October 23 to November 7.
