Sonic quits CS:GO

Twenty-three-year-old esports athlete Aran “Sonic” Grøsbeck has officially announced his retirement from professional CS:GO. Thus, one of the most successful South African players ends a career that lasted eight years. During this time, he played for such organizations as Bravado, Cloud9 and ExtraSalt.

Sonic began to gain fame in 2014-2015, showing itself at local events in South Africa. He began his career as part of a team called Energy, but soon the young and talented player attracted the attention of Bravado, which by that time had already begun to enter the international scene. However, despite the success achieved at home events, the team failed to advance to a higher level. Therefore, in 2018, the Bravado lineup decided to move to North America. Sonic continued to deliver outstanding results. His team's most notable achievement during this period was reaching the grand finals of DreamHack Open Winder 2018 after qualifying from a group in which they competed with OpTic and G2.

In 2019, Sonic moved to Cloud9, but after the advent of the online era, its results began to decline. After that, as this organization was dissolved, he soon found himself in Extra Salt, which during 2020 showed good achievements at the local level. However, over time, her results began to decline, and in 2021 the player announced that she wanted to take a break for a while. Now, after a six-month break, he announced that his decision is final: he does not plan to return to esports and will instead focus on other business projects.
