If previously teams received direct invites, now participants will be determined through ratings, which will be calculated separately for each region. Such changes were due to the postponement of the tournament: due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the world, it will be held not in May, but in November.
Regional tournaments will be held in the spring and autumn Regional Major Rankings, on which teams can earn rating points. In April-May, the first series of competitions called ESL One: Road to Rio. Valveplans to tell you later what other tournaments will be taken into account when forming the team ratings. However, it is already known that the closer the event is to the date of the event, the greater the weight in the ranking that the team took in it. This scheme is used to give priority to those teams that are in good shape at the start of the competition.
Number of slots onESL One Rio 2020 is different for different regions. For example, three slots are allocated for European teams on New Legends Stage and 7 slots for New Challenger Stage. A total of five teams from the CIS will qualify for the tournament – 2 on New Legends Stageand 3 onNew Challenger Stage.
