Valve has announced that it is expecting proposals from organizers of eSports events to host rating competitions. In her letter, she said that she is planning at least two RMR events in each region, with the final games expected to be held in a LAN format.
The first of these tournaments should take place in the spring or early summer, and the second – in the fall, two or weeks before the start of the October Major. As last year, Valve is encouraging organizers to change the format of already scheduled events so that they can qualify for the desired status. To do this, the tournament must meet a number of requirements that determine which teams participate, how they qualify, and how they can earn the right to participate in the major.
Valve plans to financially support the final stages of ranking tournaments in each region, paying for travel and accommodation of players, as well as providing the required amount of prize money. It is expected that in the near future Valve will talk in more detail about how the rating system will change with the addition of new events to the qualifying competition cycle. Based on the results of participation in RMR tournaments, teams will be able to qualify for a place in the PGL Major tournament, which will be held in Stockholm in October-November 2021.
