Valve is going to cancel the spring majors

On Saturday evening, Valve sent out a letter to tournament organizers informing them that they were canceling the major, which was scheduled to take place in mid-May 2021. Most likely, this decision is due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, due to which a number of competitions have already been canceled in 2020. Earlier, in September, Valve announced that it would postpone the formation of the schedule for future majors until the moment when it was safe to talk about the safe organization of at least regional LAN tournaments.

Valve now states its intentions as follows: “We remain committed to our previous commitments and now have a European site planned for the competition and a key event partner identified. If circumstances allow, the major will take place from October 25 to November 7, and the preliminary matches – October 23-24.

Thus, the tournament will take place a week earlier than previously planned and will become the fourth consecutive event of this level to be held in Europe. Valve also notes that the changes in the procedure for calculating the RMR rating that were made in April remain in force. The company remains open to feedback from tournament organizers regarding this system.
