What is ranks in CS2?
To understand the ranks in CS2, you need to understand how the ranking and rating system in the game works.
Ranks in the new version of Counter-Strike – more than just badges of honor: they are the most important indicator of a player's performance. They guarantee fair selection of players. The ranking system is designed to categorize players based on their skill level, taking into account skills such as placement, aiming, map knowledge, positioning, and game sense.
Ranking is based on – Matchmaking Rating, or MMR.
How Is there a rating in CS2?
Matchmaking Rating – a hidden value that affects rank progression and determines the level of opponents you face as the game progresses. MMR takes into account player performance in matches. The better your game, the higher your rating. Ranks in CS2 directly depend on this.
Counter-Strike 2 now has 2 ratings – Competitive and Premier mode (the highest status). The updated version of the game still uses the old rating system, but only in competition mode. It is possible that in the future it will be removed altogether.
To obtain the initial rating in the game you will need to win 10 matches. The developers decided that simply playing well was not enough to achieve this goal, and made the task somewhat more difficult. Rating levels range from 0 to 40,000 (plus elo) and are based on the number of wins and losses. After you complete 10 matches, your rating will change dynamically. Each victory will bring points, defeat – take away.
Every 5000 rating in CS2 is indicated by a certain color, and also determines the player’s category. There are 7 such colors in total:
level up to 4999 – gray;
from 5000 to 9999 – blue;
from 10000 to 14999 – blue;
from 15000 to 19999 – purple;
from 20000 to 24999 – pink;
from 25000 to 29999 – red;
30000 and above – gold.

Ranks, or titles in CS2 have 18 levels. We will talk about them below, starting with the minimum and ending with the most prestigious.
Silver-1
The initial rank, which is usually possessed by players who have recently started participating in the game. A player at this level is just beginning to understand basic strategies, basic movements and aiming. A gamer who has been playing any first-person shooter well for a long time will easily defeat a player with the rank of Silver-1.
Moving to the next level will not be too difficult: with stable performance over a week or a month and gradually gaining experience, you can easily do this.
Silver-2
This is a higher level compared to the previous one, but players who have this title in the CS until they can maintain constant success in the game. Despite the fact that they already understand some theoretical aspects, they often have problems communicating with other players and coordinating the actions of team members.
The following skills are required from a participant with this rank:
Knowledge of basic locations on the map;
Basic recoil control;
Use of save rounds;
At least minimal participation in teamwork.
Silver-3
If you – the owner of this “silver”, this means that you have become much better at mastering gaming techniques. A player with this title in CS is no longer a complete beginner in CS2, has several hours of experience, knows almost all the basics of the game, including – movement, main names of locations on the map, weapon recoil. Also included in the list of expected skills from the Silver-3 level are the following:
effective use of the economy;
appropriate and effective use of smoke;
teamwork, involvement, communication.
Silver-4
A player with this rank is not bad at the game. Of course, he still has a lot to learn, but there are no problems with the basics and rules. At this stage you need to be extremely careful and careful: the mistakes you make will have serious consequences. You should not expect such leniency as at previous levels.
A gamer with this title in the CS must hone the following skills:
effective control of weapon recoil;
active communication with teammates;
good knowledge of everyone cards;
accurate throwing (this mainly applies to smoke bombs);
knowing when it is better to buy, and when – save.
Silver Elite
This is a decent level, which indicates that the player has learned all the basics of CS2. These are locations on the most popular maps, the recoil nature of most types of weapons, good aiming and the placement of the crosshairs.
With this rank, moving to higher levels is not too difficult: it will only require a slight adjustment to your playstyle. Silver Elite players must have the following abilities and skills:
proper handling of weapons;
movement efficiency;
teamwork using a microphone;
a complete understanding of how the economy works within the game.
Silver-Grand Master
This title in CS2 belongs to experienced fighters who have learned all the basics of the game and have significantly improved the game mechanics. They are well versed in most maps and demonstrate strategic thinking. Of course, in this category there is something to strive for and something to improve.
Players have good aim and skillfully place the crosshairs. They should have the following skills:
Decent aim;
Effective handling of weapons and movement;
Target play;
Full knowledge of most maps.
It is worth working on the execution of complex tactics and teamwork.
Gold Star-1 (Gold Nova 1)
This is the average skill rank of players in Counter-Strike. Gamers with this title in CS2 have the following skills:
knowledge of all weapon recoil patterns;
ability to control almost all types of weapons;
having a constant target;
developed tactical awareness – knowledge of when to carry out certain actions, and when to refrain from doing so;
good knowledge of maps, awareness of all cover places, angles, takeouts and strategies;
communication with the team in the style of transferring valuable information to allies (location of enemies, whether they have specific weapons).
Gold Star-2 (Gold Nova 2)
This is a good rank. This title in CS2 usually belongs to players who have logged several hundred hours in this shooter. They have the following skills and abilities:
good recoil control, skillful handling of weapons;
good aim (the player knows how to aim at the enemy’s head, track targets in motion);
tactical awareness, a sense of the game that allows you to quickly make decisions in accordance with the changing situation;
knowledge of maps at a high level;
use of skills and team communication.
Gold Star-3 (Gold Nova 3)
This is one of the best ranks in Counter-Strike, especially for casual players. To progress further at this stage you will need to play with special concentration. Important skills that a player with a title in CS2 Gold Nova 3 should have:
extensive experience in handling most types of weapons;
good accuracy, shooting targets without missing;
good sense of the game, awareness of everything that is happening in the match around you;
good knowledge of the basic locations on the maps.
In matches of the Gold Nova 3 level, gamers with different skill levels can meet – both experienced and not so experienced. It is recommended to play on different maps, rather than just one, in order to understand different strategies and improve your own adaptability.
Gold Star Master
This level indicates the high skill of the gamer, a deep understanding of the game and its mechanics. This title in CS2 is characterized by belonging to a group of skills that have a level above average in the game.
Increasing this level to the next one will be quite difficult: you will have to enter into a fierce battle with other applicants.
The title of Gold Star Master is characterized by the following skills:
recoil control and handling skills with weapons at an above-average level;
accurate aim, almost perfect accuracy, easy tracking of moving targets;
solid tactical awareness, good sense of the game;
good knowledge of the map – in addition to basic locations, players know about popular shelters, smoke and strategies used by professional players;
team communication.
