M4A1-S | Golden Coil (Factory New)

In Factory New (FN), the M4A1-S | Golden Coil is the most expensive of its five wears, and the gold is untouched. It is a Covert rank skin from The Shadow Collection, and its float band takes up seven percent of the scale: 0.00 to 0.07.

What the M4A1-S | Golden Coil looks like in Factory New

The gold is saturated, with a faint orange cast. A quilted diamond pattern covers the suppressor and the plate by the magazine well. The top of the receiver is black, scattered with gold splashes and swirls. Valve calls this a hydrographic print of an attacking snake, but on the model only a winding gold outline can be made out. The stock is dark with a gold ornament and an orange butt plate, and a gold stripe runs along the magazine. The ribbed handguard and the middle of the barrel are black.

In Factory New the diamond edges are sharp, the gold is even and there are no gray patches. This copy's float stays the same forever, because wear is set at the moment of the drop.

Where the M4A1-S | Golden Coil came from

The author is Kitch.sb. On the Steam Workshop the submission was titled "Snakebite M4A1-S | Gunsmith Gold (+normal)". The skin arrived in September 2015, when The Shadow Collection was added to the game.

What to check before buying

Copies of the M4A1-S | Golden Coil differ in just two ways:

• the float inside the 0.00 to 0.07 band;

• whether the skin carries stickers and an applied name tag.

A spread of 0.00 to 0.07 is so small that there is no reason to shop by float. The artwork never varies, so pattern has no say in the price.

What the M4A1-S | Golden Coil costs in Factory New

Set against Factory New, the other wears price like this:

• Minimal Wear is cheaper by more than half;

• Field-Tested is more than three times cheaper;

• Well-Worn is almost four times cheaper;

• Battle-Scarred is more than four times cheaper.

The skin sits exactly in the middle of the Covert M4A1-S rank: of eleven, five cost less and five cost more. Hyper Beast costs about a fifth more, Chantico's Fire a tenth more. Below it come Cyrex, Mecha Industries and Fade, and the cheapest are Vaporwave and Player Two. Higher up, Printstream costs almost twice as much, and Welcome to the Jungle more than seven times as much.

Getting the M4A1-S | Golden Coil

The skin comes out of the Shadow Case. To trade up into an M4A1-S | Golden Coil, hand over ten skins of the rank below from the same collection.

StatTrak and Souvenir

The M4A1-S | Golden Coil has a StatTrak version. The finish never got Souvenir packages, since those were made only for tournament map collections. If you want a Souvenir copy, you can assemble one through the Souvenir-O-Matic, which puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a regular skin from your inventory.

Stickers and craft on the M4A1-S | Golden Coil

On clean gold a sticker is the only foreign mark, so choose it by color: black and dark blue give contrast, yellow merges with the paint. The pistol grip and the stock are free. The quilted suppressor is better left uncovered.

Who this wear suits

Factory New is the right buy for the M4A1-S | Golden Coil if:

• you want even gold quilting with no gray patches;

• the skin is going into a set of gold finishes or a Shadow Collection set;

• a surcharge of more than double over Minimal Wear does not put you off.

In CS2 the wear changes only the look, and shooting is the same.
