SSG 08 | Big Iron, Field-Tested (FT): the middle of the scale, where the yellow-orange hydrographic is slightly scuffed but the net of thin lines still reads. This wear of the SSG 08 | Big Iron has a float of 0.15 to 0.38. Classified rank. The scout belongs to The Shadow Collection and drops from the Shadow Case.
What the SSG 08 | Big Iron looks like in Field-Tested
The finish is yellow and orange hydrographic on the receiver and the stock, with a dense grid of thin black lines laid over it that looks like a geometric mosaic. The barrel, scope and muzzle brake are black, while the stock is orange with the same pattern. The bipod on the scout is dark. Valve describes the finish as yellow-orange hydrographic that was already slightly worn when it was made.
That aged look is built into the finish itself. In Field-Tested the paint on the edges of the receiver and stock dulls, but the black grid stays readable. Shop for an SSG 08 | Big Iron by the number rather than by the wear label: the 0.15 to 0.38 band is wide.
What to check before buying
Picking a specific SSG 08 | Big Iron comes down to these points:
- the float: the band takes up 0.23 of the finish's 0.64 scale, which is 36%;
- the edges of the receiver and the stock, where the yellow paint goes first;
- the name tag and stickers this SSG 08 | Big Iron already carries.
The SSG 08 | Big Iron has no pattern variants, so there is nothing to choose by. The artwork is applied whole and is the same on every copy.
What the SSG 08 | Big Iron costs in Field-Tested
The other wears, relative to this one:
- Factory New: a little over three times as much;
- Minimal Wear: almost twice as much;
- Well-Worn: about 30 percent more;
- Battle-Scarred: the same price.
Well-Worn costs more than Field-Tested even though its float is higher: its band of 0.38 to 0.45 is three times narrower. The ceiling of the finish is 0.64, so Battle-Scarred covers only the stretch from 0.45 to 0.64.
Among Classified SSG 08 skins in this wear, this finish is the cheapest of four. Above it sit SSG 08 | Turbo Peek, SSG 08 | Bloodshot and SSG 08 | Death Strike. The last of them costs an order of magnitude more than the rest.
Getting the SSG 08 | Big Iron
The skin drops from the Shadow Case. The second road is a trade-up contract: ten skins one rank lower from the same collection go in, and the odds are one in three. The finish also works as a contract input: ten Classified skins yield a Covert M4A1-S | Golden Coil or USP-S | Kill Confirmed.
StatTrak and Souvenir
A StatTrak version of the SSG 08 | Big Iron exists. No Souvenir packages were released for this finish, but you can build a souvenir copy yourself: the Souvenir-O-Matic puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on a regular skin.
Stickers and craft on the SSG 08 | Big Iron
The background is yellow and orange with a black grid, which makes a bright, warm base. Stickers in black and dark tones read clearly on top of it, and blue ones contrast with the yellow.
The line grid is fine, so stickers with delicate detail merge into the pattern. For a craft, large stickers with a heavy outline work best.
Who this wear suits
Field-Tested is a sensible choice for the SSG 08 | Big Iron in three cases:
- you want a bright yellow-orange scout and scuffed paint on the edges does not bother you;
- it matters that the finish is the cheapest among the Classified SSG 08 skins in this wear;
- the scout is headed for CS2 matches: Valve describes the SSG 08 as a low-powered but very economical rifle for long shots in the early rounds.
If clean paint matters, take Minimal Wear or Factory New: they cost almost twice as much and a little over three times as much.
