The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke in Factory New (FN) is a gray sniper rifle without a single colored spot and with its artwork film intact. Its rank is Consumer Grade, and it belongs to The Ascent Collection. In CS2 either side can take the rifle, and players call it the scout.
What the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke looks like in Factory New
The whole finish is held in grayscale: graphite, black and light gray, with no colored inserts. Wavy bands that look like smoke swirls run across the receiver, handguard and stock. The barrel, scope tube and grip stay almost black, so the pattern reads on the chassis itself.
The smoke here is streaked rather than cloudy: the edges of the light swirls are sharp, with no blur. For this wear the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke lies between 0.00 and 0.07. Across such a band the light lines run unbroken, with no gaps at the edges of the stock. The float is set at drop and does not change, so a clean copy stays clean.
Where the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke came from
The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke appeared on March 31, 2025, when The Ascent Collection was added to the game. It arrived with Boreal and Radiant: Valve wrote of more than seventy new finishes across the three sets.
Valve's description of this finish is short: a graphic pattern in grayscale, and a question about what color cartridges cost.
What to check before buying
Before taking an SSG 08 | Grey Smoke, look at these points:
- float: in Factory New it runs from 0.00 to 0.07, and any other number already means a different wear;
- the stickers and name tag already placed on this SSG 08 | Grey Smoke.
The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke carries one and the same pattern on every copy, and no rare examples exist. A spread of 0.00 to 0.07 is so small that picking by float makes no sense.
What the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke costs in Factory New
Relative to Factory New, the other wears cost this:
- Minimal Wear costs about two fifths more;
- Field-Tested also costs about two fifths more;
- Well-Worn costs the same;
- Battle-Scarred is more than six times cheaper.
Cleanliness adds nothing to the price here: Factory New costs no more than the two neighboring wears. Among Consumer Grade SSG 08 skins this one stands almost at the bottom. Only SSG 08 | Sans Comic is cheaper, and SSG 08 | Green Ceramic sits level with it. SSG 08 | Blue Spruce costs about four times more, and SSG 08 | Prey about five and a half.
Getting the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke
The SSG 08 | Grey Smoke has never been in a case. The Ascent Collection is on the weekly playtime reward list, and copies are issued from there.
A contract cannot build the skin: Consumer Grade is the collection's lowest rank, and there is nothing to put under it. The skin does work as an input, though. Ten Consumer Grade skins of Ascent give one of nine Industrial Grade skins from this collection.
StatTrak and Souvenir
A StatTrak version of the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke was not released. Souvenir copies exist, but no packages were made for this finish, since those were built only for tournament map collections. Such copies are made through the Souvenir-O-Matic, which puts gold tournament stickers and a player autograph on an ordinary skin from the inventory.
Stickers and craft on the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke
The gray scale gives a neutral base: colored stickers read on it at once, while white and silver ones dissolve into the light bands. Black stickers vanish on the graphite parts of the chassis.
Who this wear suits
Buying the SSG 08 | Grey Smoke in precisely this wear makes sense when:
- you want a CS2 scout in a gray palette, with no colored spots and an intact film;
- colored stickers need a neutral background.
If an intact film is not needed, four wears sit lower on the scale. Battle-Scarred, the cheapest of them, is more than six times cheaper.
