The ★ Gut Knife without a skin is the Gut Knife in CS2 with no finish on it, and the lot description marks it as not painted. Covert rank, with the ★ mark. It has no wear, float or pattern, and any two copies are identical.
What the ★ Gut Knife looks like
The blade is short, with a high belly, and ends in a gutting hook curved backward. Small serrations run along the spine. The flat of the blade carries swirls of light and dark steel, large and uneven: this is the model's own texture, not wear.
The handle is wood, reddish brown, with light rivets and a smoothly concave back. A lanyard ring sits at the butt. The color comes from the wood and the steel, and nothing else is on the knife.
How the plain ★ Gut Knife differs from a skinned one
A Gut Knife with a skin is judged by wear and float. Without a skin, neither measure exists:
- no wear grade is assigned, and the lot has no float band;
- there is no pattern, and the swirls in the steel are the same on every copy;
- a name tag can be applied, and the name stays on the knife when it is sold;
- knives do not take stickers.
One question remains: the regular version or the StatTrak version.
What the ★ Gut Knife costs
In the range of Gut Knife skins, the unpainted knife sits nearer the bottom: twelve skins cost less than it and twenty-two cost more. Right below it are Gut Knife | Black Laminate (a tenth cheaper) and Gut Knife | Damascus Steel (a few percent). Gut Knife | Freehand differs by about three percent.
Higher up stand Gut Knife | Stained (almost level), Gut Knife | Blue Steel (a few percent more) and Gut Knife | Crimson Web (about a fifth more). The top of the range is Gut Knife | Gamma Doppler Emerald, at nearly seven times the price of the unpainted knife. Gut Knife | Doppler Ruby costs more than eight times as much, and Gut Knife | Doppler Black Pearl about ten and a half times.
Is there a StatTrak version
Yes. The ★ StatTrak™ Gut Knife is sold as a separate item on its own page. The kill counter passes to the buyer as it stands. The StatTrak version costs three quarters more than the regular one.
Getting the ★ Gut Knife
The Gut Knife drops as a rare special item from eleven cases. Three of them are eSports cases: eSports 2013 Case, eSports 2013 Winter Case and eSports 2014 Summer Case. Another three are CS:GO weapon cases: CS:GO Weapon Case, CS:GO Weapon Case 2 and CS:GO Weapon Case 3. The remaining five are Operation Bravo Case, Operation Phoenix Weapon Case, Operation Vanguard Weapon Case, Winter Offensive Weapon Case and Revolver Case.
The unpainted knife sits in the same rare special item pool as the skins, so it comes up at random. The trade-up contract is the second route: five Covert skins from one collection turn into a rare special item, and the game picks its model.
Who it suits
Buying the ★ Gut Knife without a skin makes sense when:
- you like the hook at the end of the blade and the wood of the handle;
- you want a lot with no float, where the price decides everything;
- you want the model for its shape, and most skins on it cost more than the unpainted knife.
