If you buy or sell CS:GO skins, it is worthwhile to first understand their parameters, in particular, find out what float is in CS:GO and how to recognize it. If you don't understand what this characteristic affects and what it stands for, you risk overpaying for a skin that doesn't have a high value, or on the contrary, cheapen it by selling a rare find. Float (float) is one of the important characteristics that affect the value of game items.

What Is Float

Float value is the name of the variable on which the degree of weapon wear depends. Depending on which gap it falls into, the skin will acquire one of the characteristics you're probably already familiar with – from Factory New to Battle-Scarred. If you look at the skin's float, you'll see that it ranges between 0.00 and 1.00. New skins have the smallest index, worn – are approaching one. Here's how skin characteristics relate to this value:

  • Factory New – 0.00 to 0.07;

  • Minimal Wear – 0.07 to 0.15;

  • Field-Tested – 0.15 to 0.38;

  • Well-Worn – 0.38 to 0.45;

  • Battle-Scarred – 0.45 to 1.00.

Note that even within the same range the appearance of the weapon may differ – a skin with parameter 0.99 will look more shabby and battered by life than with parameter 0.46, although both will say Battle-Scarred

How Float Affects The Price

Although the quality of the skin depends on the float, this does not mean that skins Factory New always cost more, and Battle-Scarred – cheaper, or vice versa.

The main thing that determines the price for a skin in CS:GO is its rarity. So a skin with a rare float value can cost more, even if it looks shabby. If you are aware of how to find out the float of weapons in CS:GO, it will help you to buy or sell a skin profitably.

With many skins, the situation is simple: a new and clean skin will cost more because it better shows the pattern. However, sometimes you can save money: some skins have Factory New and Minimal Wear that look almost the same, but the latter is cheaper.

Which Floats Are Most Expensive

The price is also influenced by the probability of a certain skin falling out. Guns from older collections, such as Assault or Vertigo, have a limited range of this parameter, which means that the likelihood of dropping the weapon Factory New is greatly reduced. Therefore, such an item, if you are lucky enough to get it, immediately turns into a real value. Therefore, we advise you to always look at the float of the skin before selling or buying, so as not to miss out.

Skins with rare float values with a lot of zeros at the end can be sold for a lot of money. There are three – 0.25000…, 0.50000… and 0.75000… Getting one of these is like winning the lottery, but collectors who collect rare guns are willing to fork out a tidy sum for them. Don't forget to check the float and wear level before you sell or buy – some rarities can't be recognized by their appearance, because it's all about the unusual number. Estimate how much your skins will cost, will help inventory calculator sites, which calculate the potential profit from the sale of items taking into account market prices.

How The Look Of The Skin Changes With Different Float

You can approximately recognize the weapon float in CS:GO by appearance – the greater the indicator, the more scuffs, scratches, and cracks. The paint can become paler, and the metal – dull and scratched, in general, the skin starts to look like it has survived more than one battle. For some skins you'll have to look hard to notice the difference – they don't have scuffs and scratches, but instead just have dull and faded colors. Especially often such skins appear in the latest updates.

Sometimes, if you buy a skin, you can save noticeably by choosing Field-Tested instead of Factory New or Minimal Wear. The price will be much less, and the difference in appearance may not be noticed by anyone.

How To See The Float Of A Skin

If you buy skins at LIS-SKINS, you can find out the float of weapons in CS:GO right in the description. This shows not just a wear characteristic (e.g. Minimal Wear or Field-Tested), but a specific figure. So you will always be able to see how close the characteristic of the skin you like is to the border of the gap. If you want, you can select the skins that have this parameter in the range you need, so you don't have to spend time looking through all the offers (and we always have a lot of them).

If you sell your skins, it is a bit more difficult to see their float in advance. CS:GO itself doesn't have this feature, so you'll have to put a little more effort into it. The easiest way to find out this information is through http://csgo.exchange/. Here's what you need to do to do it:

  1. Go to the site.

  2. Log in with your Steam account.

  3. The site will scan your inventory (your account must be public for this to work).

  4. By hovering over any item, you will be able to see the skin's float, as well as other parameters.

In the same way, you can see the characteristics of not only the skins in your inventory but also any other items for sale on the community marketplace in Steam. To do this, you need to find the desired item, right-click on it and copy the link, and then paste it into the appropriate box on the site.

If you have a Google Chrome browser, you can try installing the Steam Inventory Helper browser extension. Among other useful features, it helps to know the float and wear level for the items you have in your inventory. The developers update the plugin regularly, so it's probably still working when you're reading this.

Why Know The Float

I guess now you understand why and how to know the weapon float in CS:GO before selling or buying. The cost of the skin strongly depends on this parameter. In combination with other characteristics, such as the presence of StatTrak, belonging to one of the collections, and the rarity of the skin itself, it can drive up the price or, on the contrary, bring it down. Knowing how float affects the look of the weapon will save you money on buying skins that look the way you want. And on LIS-SKINS you will always find the most favorable conditions for buying and selling skins, CS:GO news, and a lot of useful information.
