According to data published by EsportsEarnings.com, Counter Strike: Global Offensive has become the largest eSports discipline in terms of the number of prizes awarded. The total amount that successful players could earn during the year is close to $16 million. This figure has increased significantly since last year, increasing by 6.5 million. For comparison, the total amount of prize money in Dota 2, which took second place, is one third less than that of the leader – it amounts to slightly more than 9 million. The following positions are occupied by a small margin by League of Legends, Fortnite and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
CS: GO ranks first in some other indicators, in particular, in the total number of tournaments held and their participants. In 2020, more than 500 competitions of various levels were held, in which almost three thousand e-sportsmen took part. These figures are especially remarkable given that teams and organizers had to adapt to completely new conditions. Due to epidemic safety measures, some major tournaments were canceled and others were moved to a LAN format. However, CS:GO remained the largest eSports discipline.
