DreamHack spoke about how open tournaments will be held during the 2021 season. In total, seven events with a total prize fund of $700,000 will be held as part of the DreamHack Open cycle. Moreover, two of them are planned to be held in LAN format.
The first five DreamHack Open competitions will be held online, with channels from two regions taking part in each of them. The first of them, intended for teams from Europe and North America, already began last Wednesday. Subsequent tournaments will feature representatives from South America, Asia and Oceania. Online competitions will take place in January, March, June, September and October. And in November two offline events should take place – in the USA and Sweden.
This series of games is considered as one of the levels of the ESL Pro Tour, the main goal of which is – provide teams with an accessible route to larger esports events. Last week, ESL and DreamHack talked about the championships planned for 2021. Only IEM Katowice will be held completely online, and in the future the organizers expect to combine formats.
Sean Clarke, Head of the ESL Pro Tour at ESL Gaming, commented on the plans: “ESL and DreamHack share a shared desire to create an open ecosystem that gives talented young players the opportunity to excel while advancing their careers. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the competition schedule for the entire year, including a plan for a return to offline events."
