If you came across this article, then you are probably interested in how the rank increase scheme works in CS:GO. And this is perhaps the most secret and incomprehensible formula that Valve has invented, if you don’t count the percentage of ST knives that drop out of the factory.
The official explanation in the Steam community does not provide any information and only makes it more confusing. It's the same with forums, discussions and most videos on YouTube channels. But if you carefully study the information, you can figure out certain counting algorithms, which is what we did.
Welcome to Lis-Skins.com, now we will explain how the scheme for increasing ranks in CS GO works.
Rank table
For 2021, there are 18 titles in the game with a clear gradation. Old-timers know them all very well, and for beginners we will make a visual hint with the original and slang designation.

Naturally, everyone strives for a top rank, or at least Big Star, because this is already a badge from the top division, like a colonel in the regular army.
What is calibration
When you just downloaded the game and go to random, there is no sign opposite the character. The first 10-15 matches must be played idle so that Valve's calibration system understands who it is dealing with. If someone there probably decides that you are quite capable of reaching the level of the first or second Nova, then you will get it. But most often they start with starting silvers (1-4), where they will most likely remain.
Your entire future game — an attempt to deceive the calibrator and not allow it to become convinced that you are not able to get further than the same Nova.
One more nuance: only 2 wins are counted per day, no matter how many random games you play. In other words, you can actually get your first rank only after 5 days. But there will be time to practice and understand what’s going on here.
Nobody knows the exact formula for calculating MMR (performance rating), but gamers have already managed to calculate some points:
-
Custom matches do not bring anything and most often result in demotion;
-
it is much more important to earn not frags, but MVP (MVP), at least one point at the end of the match;
-
Gamers who are active rise in ranks much faster;
-
when playing with the same ranks (or lower), the chances of getting up are near zero.
If you still hope that the scheme for increasing your rank in CS is easy to master, then move on.
How to promote in rank
Under ideal conditions, where everyone gives in, allows you to plant bombs, runs around with empty magazines and generally behaves like bots, the promotion scheme looks something like this:
But this is taking into account that every next game you will win, become the best player, receiving 1-3 MVP per game. But to hire 9 more people for this movement in order to play 5 on 5, even on official servers in Deathmatch and Arms Race modes (they are the most profitable) — not an option. Unless you have an audience of 100 thousand people on YouTube, Instagram, or a crowd of loyal friends whose ranks are at least at the level of Kalash.
In reality it doesn’t work that way, so let’s come down to earth and start training hard with bots. Here we wrote about the corresponding maps, we recommend you take a look. At the same time, go to random and hone your skills with real gamers, albeit crayfish.
Some tips:
Try to play with your teammates. In solo, there is a high chance of staying at the first silvers, because the quality and skill of gamers in the initial stages is terrible. And if you regularly stay in the “swamp”, into which not a single nova swims — chances of promotion are minimal.
Do not chase headshots, hattricks, masterly jumps with a knife in your hand. The player who planted more bombs, spent less money, and survived the whole mess longer than others is valued much more than a camper who cuts off onlookers from one point.
Cheats = ban, without hesitation or attempts to appeal. Give up this idea right away, because no one has canceled patrols yet. And your inventory may contain a couple of expensive skins, which will become dead weight after a VAC ban.
Increasing your rank in CS GO is influenced by many factors, and not all of them are related to your current skill. Through experience, gamers have established several rules that, to one degree or another, are effective to this day:
-
Run around less while surrounded by bots. Go straight to multiplayer with live players, since skills are honed there much faster + it’s easier to remember the map over time;
-
Do not set a goal to kill everyone, periodically picking off the underdogs. You need to run, cover, throw flash drives, mine/defuse, throw Molotovs and be as useful as possible;
-
Forget about music, relaxation, playing for fun if you want to earn titles faster. Headphones, sensitivity and forward;
-
Be restrained when expressing emotions. You can get strikes from someone in three seconds, and this does not increase the SCI after the match;
-
Play with teammates or friends who are several points higher in rank. They will back you up and pull you up;
-
Do not use “boost” services account. What's the point of running as a supreme if you play at the level of Kalash, or even the first Nova. They'll kill you instantly, and they'll also fill you with strikes.
And if you follow the advice, sooner or later you will finally get out of the silvers into a more or less normal league, and from there the Global is just a stone's throw away. At least in theory.
